@inference So I’ve been against the Johnson and Johnson vaccine due to its low efficacy rate although am “fully vaccinated” at least until I’m supposed to get a 4th dose in February. My main concern is the FDA rushed to approve J&J due to the shortage of mRNA vaccines and hasn’t revoked approval now that supply issues have been resolved. This is worrying. I’m curious to see at what point the federal government realizes the program has failed. If you look at the

@inference infection and death rates are rising despite vaccinations going up faster and faster. What are your thoughts on what happens when we realize our efforts have failed? I think it’s unreasonable to say vaccines work given current data. Cases should be down by 60% at least given that 60% of the population has been vaccinated 🤔🤔🤔

@me That's exactly one of my points. The way things are going, Arknights doesn't seem like much of a fantasy (no, we won't have oripathy and the fantasy-like elements, but we will have an infected world in which there are at least 2 sides fighting against each other; in this case, vaccinated vs unvaccinated, just like in that game where it's infected vs uninfected). People need to realise that only N95 masks etc work, due to having up to 95% filtration, not some stupid paper masks which were never designed for such an outbreak, and they need to realise that this virus is here to stay for a very long time (perhaps our entire lifetime, at least).Stop the vaccinated vs unvaccinated war, stop the vaccine mandates and allow people to choose what's best for them (going into public is always dangerous and dirty; people cough in your face and sneeze next to you even without there being a pandemic).Life is not safe, neither is freedom. The more security you have, the less freedom you have, and I know this very well due to my role as a cybersecurity researcher.Lockdowns are not for living, they are for surviving. I agree with the first lockdown, due to requiring data on the virus etc, but now we know enough about it, and it's insane to demand that people are injected every few months. There are many health risks associated with the vaccines when taken so often, just as much as being infected with the virus.Be logical. Think before you act. If you decide to get vaccinated, do it strategically, at peak or dangerous times, such as going to heavily populated places such as large cities etc. Wear 95% filtration masks, but not when outside or not around people, due to the negative airway and brain effects they have after prolonged use.The security (masks and vaccines etc) are causing mental and physical damage just as much as the virus; it's time to balance them.

@me I'm not entirely against mask mandates, due to being able to remove them immediately after leaving a virus transmission hotspot and entering a safe zone (public streets, parks, home etc). However, these masks must be N95, and due to being costly, governments could hand them out (this would likely cost less than the economic damage done by the "no mask, no entry" policies, which prevent working in some cases).Vaccines cannot be reversed once they are injected. I'm not against vaccination, but, just like any other medication, they should be administered when required, such as when the risk is high (city visits, long working hours, lengthy close contact etc), not as daily use for even when you're stating at home for the entire vaccine effectiveness duration; that's not different to needlessly taking antibiotics just to keep bacterial infection away when the chance of getting such an infection when not in public is almost zero.I'm not saying we should be completely free to roam without any protection, but the security should not be so high that we aren't permitted to do anything more than stare at walls at home all day.

@inference I don’t go out into public very much due to working from home. I have all food and groceries delivered through a mix of Amazon and Instacart. When I do go out I’m wearing N95s or KN95s (due to difficulty ordering N95s as Amazon and Newegg is frequently out of stock of 3M N95s I avoid third party sellers to reduce the risk of counterfeit masks) although KN95 quality is sketchy so I avoid them when possible. Vaccines every six months aren’t working that we both

@inference agree on. I also agree getting sick is a part of life although at the same time it’s preventing people who are immunodeficient/compromised from attending public schools so I do agree with a mask mandate in K12 public schools (private schools can do what they want). Although more and more schools are offering online instruction so it may not be necessary for much longer. It’s a complicated issue but as someone who supports vaccination efforts they aren’t working

@inference and we need a new approach to reduce the death rate.

@me @inference it depends on your definition of "work"If zero Covid, then I'd agree, but all the front line accounts I'm seeing is that vaccinations tremendously help what happens to you if you actually get Covid. But *waves at New York times square* all of that? That does not help.

@ketmorco @me When specifically talking about Omicron, the data shows it's similar to the flu, meaning anyone who wouldn't typically be affected by flu wouldn't be affected by Omicron. Previous variants, perhaps, but not this one.At this point, it's the flu with a different name.

@me @inference Argh. While I gather this wasn’t strongly advertised by our useless media and other usual suspects, Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen unit’s one jab vaccine was from the very beginning intended to be the very best one jab vaccines. J&J was quite clear about this on their web pages in 2020, and that’s one reason it took so long to be ready, they took their time tweaking it, for example adding a third stabilizing amino acid substitution to the spike protein. If you wanted to get the highest efficacy and most likely safest vaccine due to simplicity the mRNA vaccines were the best early on. Could well be three doses of them are better than one of Janssen’s and … the two months later first boost for it schedule is only if you’re getting another jab of Janssen, it’s to let the immune system’s heightened immediate response to the virus vector to wane. Of course that’s not how it’s been communicated to the public, our public health community had long been trash, not caring about unfashionable infection disease control. There’s also some 20/20 hindsight there, no one knew what we’d be able to produce of anything. Due to decades long, multi-administration corruption Janssen’s ability to make the vaccine in the US failed (not even sure if’s started up), and to no one’s surprise it turns out human cell cultures are much harder to get good yields from than E. Coli and then machines.“Supposed to get a 4th dose?” Have only heard Israel is trying that in the real world, vs. it of course being investigated because we only find out a day at a time how many boost doses will be required.Am completely unaware of data that agrees with your claim vaccines are failing death rates. That these first generation vaccines creating a response against the classic Wuhan spike protein aren’t as good as follow on more transmissible variants is no surprise at all, but all the data I see including local, where I live, is that they’re still highly protective against Delta and Omicron.
