The hoax is not "HIV virus doesn't exist". The theory is HIV doesn't cause AIDS, or, at least, not without heavy co-factors. Also that the tests are inaccurate to actually figure out if people have the virus/disease.

You might say that some of the supposed side effects of the supposed vaccine qualify as AIDS. They certainly get weaker immune systems, but we would need unbiased studies on their CD4 cell count to be sure.

I've heard several interesting theories about GRIDS. GRIDS could have been caused by toxoplasmosis.
