One of the lies the GOP drilled into me was that government was BAD and you NEVER want government to do anything for you EVER, you want LESS government never MORE.Eventually I realized, no, I want my government to do shit I want. The left gets that. HUNGARY gets that. I want it too.

@SecularBlasphemy The point is that if you expand government and give it power, eventually it acts in self-interest.It's both true and cope. It's true about government. In the bigger picture, the problem is that democracy elects clowns.

@amerika @SecularBlasphemy this isn't true about government, but about power itself - de jouvel's history of power covers how this has worked from the time of kings forward

@SecularBlasphemy "Small government conservatism" is literally "Power-vacuum conservatism."

@SecularBlasphemy a government that does things you want is a government that can do things you don't and at the end of the day it's still giving a foreign body responsability, and thus authority, over you instead of taking responsability for yourself. 1.59 is abyssmal and still below replacement. Pro-Family™️ policies are useless in the anti-family environment of social media, dating apps, contraception and egalitarian ideals.

@127001 It's an increase over the past, a substantial one. Maybe it will continue. As for the anti-family environment, I bet the government can do something about that too if the right people demand it.I don't mind the government having power over people and taking responsibility for them instead of leaving them to their own devices. Most people need guidance. Not everyone, but most. It's just the way it is.

@SecularBlasphemy >"Most people need guidance.">"I bet the government can do something about that too if the right people demand it."A "pro-family" environment is one in which the man has responsibility and authority over 'his' family. He is the government of his household, if you will. This goes against the interest of any capital-G Government which seeks ultimate power by design. This is why the average Amish woman has 6-9 children or why Hasidic Jews go at a rate of 6.72 while secular jews are stuck at 1.29, the same level as the rest of the "modern" world.

@127001 The Hasidics basically run a mini-Sharia-law in their neighborhoods where they erect a government that oversees their people, closer and more intimidate than what the state can provide. Same for the Amish. They aren't models of individualism, but models of good government on the local level (and, insofar as they get out of the way or allow this to happen, the levels above are doing something right.)They're also pretty goddamn overbearing governments at that level too. You step out of line in the Amish community and their typical response is personal and institutional shunning, insofar as they have institutions (and, like the Jews, they do have some -- they're good with business.) I can only imagine what Jews do to Jews who are causing problems for the community. I suspect it's worse than what the PA Dutch get up to.

@SecularBlasphemy I agree. In case I came off as some kind of individualist or anarchist let me reiterate: I too think that most people are cattle that need guidance by some form of governing body. The Amish and the Hasidics have a government at the family level led by the man and a government at the communal level led by religious leaders that filters The Government at the higher levels. This is only possible with numbers, otherwise your community gets Waco'd.My point is that if you want "pro-family" behaviour, you need a pro-family environment, and the Hasidics and Amish are just two good examples of this, mini-Sharia-law included.

@127001 I understand better now, alright. I thought you were coming at this from a libertarian angle.I agree with what you're saying. I think the Catholics had a grasp on this with the Principle of Subsidiarity, once upon a time.
