If you think it's ok for people to be rich, you're ok with children living in desperate poverty with not enough food to eat and not even a fucking bed to sleep in.

@kawaiipunk You are implying that the existence of economic inequality will always cause that kind of awful poverty. This claim needs to be proven. It might be possible, as fiscal conservatives claim, that the most popular economic system that causes inequality (capitalism) also causes the standard of living to be raised for everyone.1/2

If you don't think this is the reality for many kids even in the UK, you just need to open your eyes and look at the data.In fact just read this: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/jan/02/leeds-bed-poverty-crisis-bex-wilson-zarach

@kawaiipunk If this is true, then inequality is directly proportionally to the standard of living of the poor, not inversely. And I for one, think that the state of the standard of living of the poorest is more important than the difference between rich and poor.2/2

@Hyolobrika @kawaiipunk Remember, before having empathy you must be careful not to imply that capitalism bad.

@Hyolobrika The problem is the greater the difference between the rich and the poor, the more power the rich have to compel us to decrease standard of living for the poor. Rich people overwhelm the system if they're given a big enough portion of our labor and resources. A conveniently benevolent philosopher king could enslave us all, and everything might still be great, but... that's not how it happens.

@az @kawaiipunk I'm not saying one shouldn't imply that. Just pointing out a flaw in OP's argument.

@Hyolobrika @kawaiipunk having not fleshed out the entire workings of capitalism in one toot is not the gotcha you think it is.

@az @kawaiipunk The mistake you are making is in thinking that I was trying to make smug "gotchas" to boost my ego and belittle others, when in fact I was trying to engage in sincere and honest debate. That's what you and OP are trying to do, not me.
