@smays Nice work!I also blogged for decades. Then I learned that Google had classified my blog, every bit of which had been typed by hand by me, as a spam blog. Not only was it not showing up in search results, but anyone listed in it was getting warnings they were in a spam blog. That long tail, large body of work counted against me and everyone I wanted to draw attention to. They did similar to metafilter. So I deleted it all.Shrug.

@onan Ouch. I've been immune to such by never caring about audience or google rank or any of the rest. It started as a place to put stuff I wanted to find later. And it has served that purpose well.

@smays I was the same, until I started getting emails from people I liked who were angry I'd listed them in a "spam blog" and therefore they, too, were getting ranked down in google. Now I have my archive of my tens of thousands of blog posts and a non-public set of bookmarks as my resource for what I want to find later. Ah well. What google did to metafilter was and remains pretty rotten.https://matt.haughey.com/on-the-future-of-metafilter-941d15ec96f0

@onan Yes! Your situation was clearly a problem. Not sure why I was never considered spam.Early on I get a note that China had (for some reason) blocked access to my blog. :)

@onan I never considered selling ads on the blog. Not enough views to make it worth fucking with. Had a few inquiries but always politely declined.
