Upgraded a laptop to #Windows11 this morning and I gotta say I weirdly like the new layout. It almost looks like a #Linux desktop.Still comes with bloatware, some of which you can uninstall (facebook, instagram, amazon prime apps) and others which can't be uninstalled (xbox game bar??!).

@Gina is it stable? and well, bloatware, some of it could be uninstalled via thirdparty apps which modified system registry, but it's frustrating it can't be done by system tools

@Gina Some of the UI design is ok, that's all good I have to say about W11. For example there's a heavy I/O performance issue on the system volume - which usually is the whole drive on a laptop. And we're not talking 5%, we're talkin 50% for random IO with small (read smaller than block, which is usually 4k) files. And read the fixex in the preview o_OGerman article https://www.heise.de/news/Windows-11-Performance-Probleme-mit-SSDs-und-HDDs-6294893.html and the upcoming Fix, which is in Preview: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/november-22-2021-kb5007262-os-build-22000-348-preview-7f3e18d7-4189-4882-b0e9-afc920253aee

@GinaThe ones that can be uninstalled: I guess they automatically get reinstalled on every update, like in Win10? ðĪ

@GinaI am not a big fan of #windows11 but I have dug deep into trying to optimise and lock it down a bit. Some good freeware to help with security and reduce bloatware. O&O Appbuster and O&O Shutup 10++. Be careful with the latter as you could disable things you use. Also Wise Disk Cleaner and Cleanmgr+ help keep things running smoothly. Or you could just switch to Linux, ðĪŠð

@Gina @fatboy That's the least you can say...M$ imitates Google's Android strategy (pre-installed software you can't uninstall)

@zack @Gina @fatboy O&O Shut up 10+ [1] and WPD [2] should work to disable persistent programs and weird options. Possibly disable all Xbox stuff like bars etc. I would try it if you really want to try disabling programs. I am not sure will that affect the whole experience tho.There are others but these 2 have the best interfaces and simple options.[1] https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10[2] https://wpd.app/

@Gina You can get rid of almost everything but Xbox Game Bar using PowerShell with "Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online -PackageName <Name>" Use "Get-ProvisionedAppxPackage -Online" to get a list of names of installed packages. This way they do not get re-installed even for new users.

@Gina WinGet is MS take on package management, it's pretty handy, you can install familiar tools e.g. vim, go, python etc. with it and even get rid of Microsoft Chrome â widgets and some other stuff might not work without it though. It gets really minimalistic and nice this way.
