The decay and death of each era doesn't invalidate it anymore than a person's death invalidates them and what they accomplished. The current society as we know it is in deep decay, it needs to die and a new one needs to be built to replace it using the lessons learned from it and the ones that came before it. This isn't good or bad, it's just necessary. Where you see a mistake, I see a learning experience. Your concept of "reversing" to, I assume, pre-democracy just returns to the problems democracy was made to solve. There's no idyllic time to return to, the only choices are forward or death.

You probably think it's anarchism or libertarianism or some other trivially different thing, but despotism will be the end result. It would "seem to make things better, but only for a relatively short time."And the Enlightenment involved a lot of rejection of Christ via deism or outright atheism, I don't see how you're making that connection.
