So I’m using Reeder on iOS along with the iCloud feeds feature so I don’t need to manage an RSS tool. Problem is, something keeps going wrong with the iCloud sync (I think) where lots of random old posts keep reappearing, along with sites I’ve unsubscribed from..multiple times.Thinking about a change of feed reader so after some advice please, Fedi. Any recommendations on which RSS feed reader I can use?1/2

Some caveats:1) Absolutely NOT INTERESTED in self-hosting, please don’t recommend anything self-hosted.2) Would be great if it can connect to Reeder.3) If it can’t do number 2, a good iOS or PWA is a must.4) Happy to pay for the service. Thanks, folks!2/2

@jinxd that’s what I used to use - it’s great, I just don’t have the time or inclination to manage a server.

@kev I'll throw in an endorsement for Newsblur. It's open source, and they host it for you for a reasonable price. Docs say it's compatible with Reeder, but I can't confirm as I'm an Android user. ($36/year, whatever that is in GBP)https://newsblur.com

@kev feedbin is great by itself and connects with Reeder. Was my preferred RSS reader setup until I stopped using apple. Now just feedbin in a web browser.

@kev Honestly, I use Feedly. You can use it for free if you don't mind it sticking advertising in the middle of your feeds, but you can pay for a subscription if you want to not worry about that crap. It's got a nice Web UI, and native apps on both Android and iOS. I don't think you can use Reeder with it though.

@kev I'll tell you about my psychotic system. I was a Google Reader user, and not happy about its discontinuation. I found the service at blogtrottr.com which sends emails of RSS feeds to the account of your choice. I stopped using Google for my email, and repurposed gmail to be my RSS reader. Reader recreated. My methods may not be widely applicable.

@kev check under “services” in Reeder’s settings and pick any of those for your backend. I’ve used Feedbin and Feedly happily before. I use Inoreader now.

@kev Sorry, I am unable to help, since I couldn't find good alternative for myself either. I am currently self hosting FreshRSS and I don't like the user interface. Technically a RSS reader sync service should 1. save the feeds user is following2. maybe keep track of read and unread status (alongside GUID)Both of which could be easily saved in few text files on any user selected "cloud service". My point is that the task is simple but every existin solution seems unnecessarily complicated

@kev This year I switched from Feedly to Newsblur, mostly because I was paying for Feedly but they kept trying to get me to upgrade to higher tiers for new features. Newsblur works great and is something like $36 a year for the paid hosted option.

@kev I’ve been testing inoreader at the free level and it works quite well in app and web. Sync between devices with a free account. Never used reeder, don’t know if it works.

@sbanwart @kev 2nd Newsblur, went to it after Google sunsetted Reader.- Cloud version, but also open source and can be self-hosted- Connects to Reeder (according to Reeder site)- iOS app is really good, and I use it probably 1-2 hours a day- I happily pay for it ($36 annual)I have it hooked up to RSS feeds, Twitter, Mastodon, Youtube, Reddit and Newsletters. It has built-in training so you can curate your feeds too based off tags and keywords.

@kev feedbin + netnewswire (for both iOS and Mac) has been a great combo for me; feeds are synced automatically across devices, including read status, etc.Feedbin is the source of truth, so no need to manage anything. Works flawlessly 👌
