Don't like eggnog? How about a nice old fashioned Orange Julius?#qvrecipe Got Cuties? I can get those here. How about Uglies?Highlands country grown, ugly with big seeds. So, not fit for market. You need to know someone from the countryside to get them. For about 23ยข/lb. or thereabouts. My mother-in-law, ever worried about my health, sends me these, plus fresh eggs from her hen house (father-in-law sent ten of his chickens, frozen and whole!), and big cucumbers from her garden.

@StevenDouglas This reminds me of my Father making a Christmas drink calledMolly Hogans. Pretty much the same ingredients as your drink, but he added Vodka. It was a batter. He would then pour 1-2 jiggers over crushed ice and top with 7-Up garnish with a orange wheel & Cherry. The ladies loved them.

@SQ My mom, seven sisters (all different), and their many friends made me feel like Mowgli growing up.I knew and got along with the wolves very well - the Man Village, however, was something strange and foreign that I got to know, understand and appreciate later.

@SQ Nah, it's all I knew, I didn't have anything to compare it with until later in life. But I always wind up with a couple of male friends and seven (or seventy) more sisters around me in one form or another.Comfort zone?

@DawnzIt's so good! Just like I remember it from childhood (when they still used raw eggs - before the salmonella scare).I'll be downing one of these every day until I run out of oranges.

@StevenDouglas Raw eggs? When I was in Florida one of my nieces mother-in-law has chickens and hens.I tasted my first fresh egg. I loved it. A bigger, firmer egg. Tasty, fresh. Darn, I forgot to put the eggnog out last night.

@Jaime The eggs I was used to getting from stores in the US looked like 2, sometimes close to 3. The eggs I get at stores here in Saigon look mostly like 3, maybe just a little more red.ALL eggs I get from Grandma and elsewhere from the countryside look like number one. Chickens eat everything (even chicken!) All leftovers go to them first, in addition to the grain they're fed daily.Deep red-orange=Healthy as hell, and you can definitely taste the difference - especially hard boiled.

@Josephcdickerson @Jaime Are you a milk drinker? Did you taste that difference as well? The Aussie, New Zealand, and Ireland milk products I buy here all remind of Ohio childhood, farm fresh everything. Even the milk. Full cream and it has flavor again!

@Josephcdickerson @Jaime Had to do a hyperbole check on myself. Nope. Not hyperbole. Just now cracked these two eggs - one from the store, one that Grandma just sent me (two dozen in a giant can, protected by dried rice husks). The difference is very real!

@Jaime @Josephcdickerson Not great, not bad. Between 2 & 3, not nearly as pale as 2.I was actually surprised to see any orange color at all in my store bought, they're normally yellower than that.

@StevenDouglas That's the way I remember my Ohio upbringing. Swiss cheese from Ohio is still second to none. Same with maple syrup. Did you ever have Trail bologna? Our milk was delivered to our front porch via a horse drawn wagon. All farm fresh.@Josephcdickerson @Jaime

@ChaplainEric @Josephcdickerson @Jaime I remember the Ohio bologna. My mom from a butcher shop. All beef only, and the biggest difference - which I only noticed when we had to move to Hellifornia:Great bologna 'flakes' when you cut it. It's not shiny. Oh, and Swiss cheese is actually Kryptonite to me. I avoid it only because I WILL eat all of it in one sitting. Hello, my name is Steven and I'm a Swiss Cheese-aholic. It's been a year since I went poop-stoopid and at half a pound of it.
