It's the same thing with people watching Youtubers and Twitch streamers: They act as if they're "friends" with people that will never know they exist apart from a brief moment if they donate 20 bucks to have their username read out on the screen with a brief "thanks". A symptom of simultaneous oversocialization spurred on by rapid communications technology and social media and undersocialization brought about by atomization and the death of IRL community.

@MoralPanic @MeBigbrain I truly mean it when I say that the average "adult" is operating on what should be middle school levels. Sure, they go to jobs and pay bills and those are "adult things", but most of that stuff could be done by literal children, as they don't require any great cognitive feats. You think a 10 year old can't enter numbers into an excel spreadsheet?Perhaps they can't because they'd have better sense and sanity!Beyond like third grade, people don't seem to learn unless it is self driven. They are rarely taught; instead being trained like circus animals to do fun tricks to keep the whole show running.

@WoodshopHandman @MeBigbrain Western education has shifted primarily to training workers, then they specialize those workers in a field in higher ed and that's all these people ever learn what to do. There is no holistic education, school is 8 hours just so parents can both go work. All of society is geared towards facilitating commerce, there's no need to have strong healthy people, you can always import more, the workers they train are there just to ensure their own replacement goes smoothly.
