Any armchair phycisists out there? I have an odd and very frivolous question. The spouse and I both snapped our fingers. Turns out that his snap has a higher tone than mine. The loudness and clarity of sound is about the same. I’m not musically trained, but from trying it out on the piano, I’d guess maybe half a note, or less, difference. Any ideas as to a possible cause? He’s a big man, with stronger and larger hands. Greater speed? Longer fingers?

@taylan Possible, but difficult to ascertain. I do know that the base of my thumb can fold in very close to my palm, and it seems to me it folds partially in when I snap my fingers. As far as I know, his thumb isn’t as flexible. We can see if we notice a difference later tonight.

@Gnomeshatecheese I can achieve slightly different pitches by adjusting the position of my fingers, maybe it's also to do with technique?

@jiaming Possible. I did notice that if I do a less-than-ideal snap, the pitch changes, so I compared only our best snaps. That too would be difficult to ascertain, but worth a chat certainly.
