@redmaple @ChristiJunior @Publius Environmentalism is maybe the most corrupted and warped cause. It's extremely frustrating because I do think that there are reasonable concerns with things like pollution, destruction of ecosystems and overproduction of stuff like plastic. The problem with environmentalism is that it's been jewed in to this gigantic nonsensical leftist death cult where they'll blame the west for everything while never touching actual threats to the environment like Africa and India because they're full of smelly brown people who are somehow beyond reproach even when they're the ones who care the least about the longterm sustainability of anything.

@Publius @ChristiJunior @redmaple There is a lot of pollution that comes from mining yellow cake; and you still need a shit ton to centrifuge into usable fuel, and then you have to deal with the waste. It's not as much as other fuels, but it's still all stored on site in the US.I think our last and greatest hope will be the ITER reactor. If it's successful, it will pave a path forward for real hot fusion.Man made climate change is BS though. There are thousands of things that should be of higher concern when it comes to waste and pollution than CO2. It's negotiable compared to plastics and industrial waste from electronics factories.

@SaltWraith @ChristiJunior @redmaple Pollution is a problem that should be mitigated because it is so immaediately damaging. Such as micro plastics being found in drinking water, placenta cells and the effects of micro plastics on hormones. But there is no data to substantiate that the world is heating up and sea levels are rising. They even flip flop and call it "global cooling" when one year it was significantly colder than usual.

@djsumdog @Publius @ChristiJunior @redmaple >There is a lot of pollution that comes from mining yellow cake; and you still need a shit ton to centrifuge into usable fuel, and then you have to deal with the waste. This is all red herring. Uranium reactors are almost uniquely bad at generating power. They only exist because large quantities of plutonium can be harvested from them.Thorium salt reactors use industrial byproduct as their fuel, and the resulting waste is only weakly radioactive for a few hundred years.

@anonymoose @ChristiJunior @Publius @redmaple I thought thorium reactors had a lot of problems with corrosion?I don't think you can harvest plutonium from power reactors. IIRC, Plutonium comes from the centrifuge/refinement process. Maybe you're thinking of Tritium? You can get that in a breeder reactor by bombarding lithium, but there aren't many of those (Watts Bar Nuclear in TN is one).

@meowski @ChristiJunior @Publius @anonymoose @redmaple yea I figured that was a type-o.To go back to the beginning of this thread though and the pollution/sustainability stuff ... I do wonder if these vaccines are part of a general depopulation ideology. I'm guessing certain people are well aware and even hoping they cause long term reproductive problems at around 15%~30% fertility reduction.Instead of acknowledging it, people will be praised for "choosing" to have fewer kids. Promoting homosexuality and transgenderism to younger and younger children will also help promote more people who will choose sterility (via transitioning) or non-breeding relationships, possibly leading to another 3%~5%.When I look at Gates, Bezos, Zucks, and others .. I think they see population as a problem (Gates definitely). We are building a surplus of electronics, which could help humanity survive when the entire factory workforce starts to decline over the next generation. When you look at current farming, fishing and environmental issues, humanity is eating the planet alive. It's not uncommon for people in those positions of power to start leaning towards eugenics.Terrible atrocities are possible when humanity is seen as something that needs to be fixed.

@djsumdog @anonymoose @meowski @ChristiJunior @Publius It is likely the vaccines are part of a depopulation thrust. @anonymoose @djsumdog @ChristiJunior @Publius @redmaple When you say Uranium Reactors you really mean pressurized water reactors, and on that note you would be correct, they can only burn the U-235 isotope and that's only .7% of Uranium and because there is no removal of fission products during operation they can't even burn it completely. Contrast to molten salt reactors that can burn U-235 as well as bread U-238 and Thorium-232, and can burn all the actinides, yes they are shit. Molten salt is the way to go, self limiting no need for active safety measures thus no Fukashimas in the event of power failures, the fuel is already liquid no melt-down, waste products are actively removed during operation so complete fuel usage, and no actinides produced that aren't consumed thus only short lived fission products as waste, 300 year or less, and actually only two isotopes are hot for more than 30 years. Safety is 100% passive, Oak Ridge, they totally pulled the control rods and shut down active cooling and let it run that way for 24 hours, NOTHING HAPPENED, fuel expanded, reducing reaction rate, self limiting, NADA. This is the type of nuclear reactor we need. This type of safety allows them to be placed near population centers so the waste heat can be used for things like building heating rather than just dissipating in huge cooling towers. No spent fuel is transported, so no opportunity for terrorist hijacking it.

@nanook @anonymoose @ChristiJunior @Publius @redmaple I think Molten salt reactors never got out of the experimental stages because they were subject to tons of corrosion issues. Not all nuclear plants are pressurized water reactors. There are still a considerable number of boiling water reactors (Browns Ferry Nuclear in Alabama is one that’s horrifically unsafe. It would be decommissioned in favor of Belefont, but that plant was mothballed right before it went online because Three Mile Island happened. Sadly Brows Ferry has been stripping it for parts, when it should have been the other way around). Also, you’ll never see Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval for a new breeder reactor. I’m not sure if most countries can even build new ones due to treaties (Watts Bar is a breeder for tritium). there is no removal of fission products during operation they can’t even burn it completelyYou don’t burn nuclear fuel. It breaks down. The missing piece that would change everything is figuring out how to get the fuel to completely decay into lead. I don’t think the reactors you’re talking about solved that issue. No spent fuel is transported, so no opportunity for terrorist hijacking itSpent fuel is dangerous, but almost worthless. There’s not enough material to extract anything from it (except depleted uranium bullets; which have their own controversies). It’s also not transported. It’s stored on site for now. Yucca mountain stores very little waste due to various safety issues and radiation leaks (the news will blame the Indians; but I knew a reporter in Nevada who convinced me their concerns are legit). The NRC hasn’t approved a new reactor in literally decades. If they do give a green light, it will likely be for a traditional PWR, long before any new designs.
