@FreePietje @orionwl Kinda thinking about that too. I mostly have it to rant at companies that would ignore me on any other medium :|

@stevenroose @orionwl Not having it means you won't rant at them.Which in turn means you'll focus your attention at things that are more useful and worthwhile.Win-Win.The whole meaning of Twitter/FB/etc are to wind people up so they'll stay at the platform longer. That it also means that hatred against one another increases and tolerance decreases, doesn't bother them. They'll just blame 'society'.Every user that's on there, increases *their* financial value, so I left a long time ago.

@FreePietje @stevenroose @orionwl The bird site is also becoming more and more of a walled garden like Facebook. Individual tweets can still be shared, because lazy newspapers embed them, but if you try to read a thread while logged out, it throws a login prompt at you and takes you back to the initial tweet.

@FreePietje i think it was starting to affect my mental health: the same arguments (in an ever smaller feedback cycle) and all the doompostinga never ending firehose of messages but they're all kind of the sameβ€”but addictive enough to crowd out other interactions, or take focus from things that need a longer attention spanthat said i do miss some people

@FreePietje @orionwl Well, the ranting usually has effect.. That's the point. You can shoot an e-mail to customer support, but they usually just ignore you. If you publicly tweet to them, they'll make you a priority. It's sad, but it has worked various times in the past for me.

@orionwl I completely understand as that was the trigger for me too. When thinking further about it, it all seems intentional bc it also had the effect on me that I kept going back. Then realizing that it doesn't align with my values (on various fronts) and the *only* reason Twitter/FB/etc are financially valuable is bc their users bring 'content' (of a diminishing 'return').So the best response was for me to abandon those platforms (completely), even if it meant losing contact with some.

@sjors @stevenroose @orionwl That already happened a while ago, but then they rolled that change back. Maybe they'll do it again, but the most likely course is that it'll stay like that permanently now or in the future.Google is turning Android more and more in a walled garden too, so that seems to be a trend :-/ Probably 'inspired' by Apple with their insane prices/valuation, but they're forgetting that Apple actually has a value proposition. Not for me, but I can understand the appeal.

@stevenroose @orionwl You do have a point there.Trying to contact various Public Transport agencies/companies and you see "get a response within 15 minutes on Twitter" or the other option: "it can take up to 3 business days to respond to email" 😑
