hm.. streaming my dumb random stuff on Twitch is less effort/more reliable and i don't mind it that much but at the same time one big issue is the chatI prefer much more owncast which doesn't require an account... and even gives viewers the freedom to stay anonymous, which i do prefer, i saw people just not change their name and do chat, it's a lot more relaxed... idk

i would try peertube streaming at the very least to try it out but i am not familiar with any peertube instance

@vib peertube is surprisingly low resource to run if you dont do transcoding (though this can cause some minor issues), and for streaming atleast in my experience it was completely painless just a simple key and url and it worked with no issues. there's a plugin for chat via xmpp that supports anonymity and some other features. if you have a permanent live it only shows up in listings when its being streamed too, which is useful for example i was restreaming to there with a script that reused the same url when a stream starts.

@vib @dilans there also is Owncast for streaming. Requires low specs, and I'm sure you can make chat anonymous if you have some dev skills

@aoi@based.social @dilans@social.berzs.xyz yeah, i mentioned owncast in the first post. :pi have one on https://live.vibbe.xyzthing is it is weirdly hard to host. there's 2 options: re-encoding on, so the stream goes thru ffmpeg, which no matter what uses a lot of cpu for some reason. then re-encoding off which causes weird frequent buffers.Once I tried to host on my actual desktop (same where i was streaming from) with re-encoding on obviously, which wasn't that big of a task, but still had 1-2 seconds buffers every 3-4 minutes from what i understood.. so it's weird

@vib yeah. transcoding obviously takes a bit of resources and sadly its nodejs backend, but it used between 150-200 mb on average for me? usually lower end. cpu usage absolutely minimal except it spiked on uploading for some reason. a couple percentile on my shitty 7$ vps. https://joinpeertube.org/faq#should-i-have-a-big-server-to-run-peertube shows the specs for their flagship test server and its only 2gb ram and 2 vcores on their vps, transcoding and all

@vib @dilans hmm that's weird, I never run into that issue. Reminds me I want to make another front end for Owncast, I don't like the default one, I want something that looks more old :party:
