Since we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is not only not necessary, but not even healthy to eat meat, there is no justification, to eat meat, besides taste.

But taste cannot trump the right to live of animals, especially since we know that at least mammals like pigs or cows can experience social bonding, pain, fear very similarly to us humans.

If you try to justify eating meat, you will end up with one of two illogical postions, either you will make an argument that could also justify eating children and/or disabled humans.

@MichaelAntonF she walks through all the usual arguments about sustainability and vegetarianism, refuting them one by oneMy main summary is that agriculture without ruminants is fundamentally extractive. It must import fertilizer of some kind, otherwise the soil becomes depleted of nutrients. Regenerative ag will actually replenish the topsoil tho, and thus rebuilds the ecosystem over time

@bsima that is utter BS. 1. you don’t need to kill animals that fertilize your soil2. Permaculture that gives room to wild animals is the most sustainable method of agriculture 3. raising cows causes 5x more crop deaths than eating crops…With this much misinformation from the start, I’m not sure there is a need to go deeper…What is her moral justification?

@MichaelAntonF I agree. We can’t communicate with them so we have to judge based on their level of happiness. So where is a cow or chicken happier: as a wild animal, or under the protection and care of a farmer that treats them well?I’m ruling out cafos because obviously nothing would want to live like that
