       @flip When I went to my mom for advice on what to do for insurance, she was fresh off of a mission trip to China and started ranting about how the poor Chinese children have to pay for their healthcare in cash and I'm lucky to have something like insurance. That's when I really knew that I was on my own when it came to figuring out even the most basic of life skills.

       @mrsaturday @flip I have always been eternally grateful that my family is intact and my parents did their best for me, even to the point of being a bit overbearing.A big epiphany came when one of my friends told me of his childhood raised by a single mother. She kept custody of him to spite his dad, and then spent his childhood mostly neglecting him. She didn't even teach him to brush his teeth and he didn't even realize it until his teens.Broken families, but especially single mothers, have ruined entire generations of people.

       @flip The irony of the "fend for yourself" generation is the reason they have no knowledge or wisdom to pass down is because they grew up entirely reliant on the system to make decisions for them and tell them unquestioningly what to do.

       @flip I relate to this. My dad never wanted kids so he couldn't be bothered to teach us anything, my mum couldn't fill in the blanks because she was a housewife and he did everything for her. The fact that I'm 50% him is why I don't have any children of my own.
