@HyolobrikaBelieving in abortion is considered anti-autoritarian. Believing in Communism is. Considered left-wing (anticapitalist), but so are other economic systems. Generally you consider ideas left-wing when they try to reform or revolutionize the established systems (be they political or economical) for the gain of the common people (as opposed to the monarchs, the wealthy, and others in alternative ideologies)

Believing in abortion is definitely considered left-wing, at least in the US, even though it doesn't favour the common people at all.Also, what about tolerance for and avoidance of disparaging foreigners, the disabled, women, sexual monorities, etc? That is considered left-wing, but it doesn't favour the common people i.e. the majority.

The common people in this definition refers to the working class people, those who don't own part of the industry, stores, etc. Basically the people who work on essential jobs.3. Abortion is not a left-wing position, but many left-leaning people take this position because they're also anti-authoritarian. There's are tons of people who conflate the left with liberals.

@Hyolobrika It doesn't necessarily, many postures most people on the left are socially progressive anti-authoritarian and in favor of, help them find political allies against the structures that keep them oppressed, namely the monarchy, feudalism, slave economy, and, more recently, capitalism.Also, many people call it basic decency when you don't outlaw having a loving, respecting relationship among consenting adults.

@Hyolobrika You can think of left and right as ideologies defined by their views of how an economy should work (which is the approach that I'm using). There are certainly other ways to define them, anyway. For example, spanish philosopher Gustavo Bueno doesn't define a left, but several leftist groups with ideas so different that there have been battles to the death among them.
