@falktx You're not able to use any TOTP application and have to use their proprietary crapware?

@falktx Thank you for taking the time to write them. Most of the time those banks don't know what they're doing, they need many people to explain them they're doing garbage...Good Luck 🤞

@falktx Have you tried https://aurora-store.en.uptodown.com/android ? I'm not using Google Play for years now but only this store. You can basically download APK offer on Google Play without a google play account which eliminate the random APK security issues.

@falktx oh I 100% agree, it's insane, some banks just have apps, so it's even worse... it's quite depressing.

@falktx Yeah I was quite pissed off... My guess is banks just trust google more than there customers.

@falktx I totally agree with you. This app is valid though (you can verify yourself) but again we should not have to find workarounds. That's a general issue in our modern life. If you're not following the mass and use the only tool you're told to use then you're on your own. That's why we eventually need those workarounds even though they would not be needed in a world respectful of your freedom (in all meanings).

@falktx I'm sharing your thoughts and that's why people think I'm living outside of this world because I'm now part of this unique community who communicates/shares/gets "informed"/learns... using the same unique tool for each need. The topic of changing people minds and habits and the rationale for promoting one tool vs another is too vast but it's a fact that laziness is the best promoter for tools that consider customers as a product. Everyone make choices, I made mines.

@falktx isn't there a bank that allows tou to use an old school FOB, TOTP or other methods? Relying on a mobile phone is ok as an option. Not ok to me if it is the only way.

@falktx Can you use tan generators? I use them for my bank as I don't want my bank account be bound to a phone that can easily get stolen/lost/I dont want google shit on my phone. I think most banks in EU support this, otherwise it's a good reason to switch the bank?

@falktx only tan lists, but not tan generators. So the paper thingy is banned, same as sms tan, but the seperate device where you have to type in a password and scan a qr like thingy is still allowed from what i know. But strong security obviously is the biggest bullshit lie ever made. Especially framing phones as something even farly remote being secure.

@falktx yeah, that would solve a lot of issues. Even the old style fob, but i guess banks don't want to make those any more if they can just give you the software and let you use your own hardware. Meh

@falktx If you have any links or pointers regarding the specific EU regulation concerned here I'd be interested - I have accounts at two different banks here in austria and both still support SMS-based TANs in addition to their smartphone apps for doing online banking (which means either that the EU regulation does not actually forbid it, or austria did not (choose to) implement it, or did not *yet* implement it). Either way I'm very interested in this because although I can still do online banking in general via SMS TAN, both banks have locked me out of doing Debit-card based online transactions specifically, as these indeed do strictly require mobile app usage for the MasterCard secure confirmation thingy, i.e. I have that same issue as you on that front. (I am btw. considering emulating Android on my desktop as a solution - I don't even have a smartphone :))

@falktxSame problem here in France, I've been delaying complying so far, but the time is gonna come where there won't be any alternative. I'd like to know what is the motivation of this regulation that breaks interoperability, exclude people that don't/can't have a smartphone at all and those that can't use one. The "security" excuse is really hard to buy.

@falktxYeah I can see how it would serve some private interests while appealing to legislators. After reading more about PSD2, none of this gets clearer. It seems to open the banking market even more but I really don't see why using an app would be necessary
