The whole linus tech tips tried linux thing, makes me angry and sad... Yes, some things may be unintuitive and not perfect, but with just as many if not more problems shown, they have only themselves to blame.

@StrawberryShortcake @The_Quantum_Alpha thats one thing, what annoys me the most is his streaming board, who gets the idea that this proprietary windows crap has to run under linux? :blobcatgooglycry:

@Jain I get it that it can be annoying, but look at it that way:He's asking whether an average gamer who doesn't like windows 11 can switch to Linux instead, today, with a minimal amount of effort. If there are issues along the way, then it may be software's fault, it may be the fault of hardware vendor whose hardware said gamer already had, or maybe it's the gamer's fault for trying to use Linux for things it's not meant to do.Either of those things would lead to a "don't switch" answer.

@wolf480pl > He's asking whether an average gamer who doesn't like windows 11 can switch to Linux instead, today, with a minimal amount of effort. Not exactly, he makes a challenge about the private computer with which games are played. But yes, one can argue with that, i also can understand certain problems with linux itself, however i am annoyed by several things which can be justified with those argument only to a limited extent or not at all:- A new system means a new system: The demand that Linux should be directed to M$ is unjustified.- With the new system you should not simply click away messages- You can't expect specialised hardware like his Stream thing, which was explicitly released for Windows, to run on Linux as well.In general, I have the feeling that the comparison with the average gamer who uses linux instead of windows does not match the video at all. His "daily use" besides gaming does not correspond to the average gamer in any way. And that's why it's fair to ask him to spend at least a fraction of the time he spent on his specific Windows setup on Linux as well.

@Jain > The demand that Linux should be directed to M$ is unjustifiedSo is the expectation that Linux will ever become mainstream on desktop. Now you may think that getting non-technical people to use Linux is a non-goal, and that's a valid approach. And in that case you can totally ignore what Linus says about Linux. As for Stream thing, you have a point, but in general, there are people who buy hardware that works with their OS, and people who use OS which works with their hw.

@Jain but yeah the Stream thing would only affect streamers and not average gamer. But that's only one of the issues they mentioned, and also I'd expect viewers to figure out "I don't have stream thing so this doeszn't affect me"

@wolf480pl @Jain I'm going to throw my two cents here:If there's anything in the world that I hate the most about the Linux community, it's people who simultaneously claim that Linux shouldn't be popular or used by average people AND complain at those same users for using Windows and exposing themselves to its ever more stringent privacy invasions and bloat.I have personally taken my time to install Ubuntu 20.04 months ago on my laptop and gotten Vanilla Gnome set up on it, not just because I like it so much personally but because I specifically did that to test how my mother would do with it. She has struggled for many years to use Windows and Android to this day, given how often she asks me for help with absolutely anything, and I knew vanilla Gnome was much simpler than that stuff for her, so when she tried it out for a few days, few bugs aside, she was enamoured with it. Sure, most of the stuff she did was through the file manager and Google Chrome (although I'm looking for a future where I can incentivize her to use Gnome WEB), but while I had to ditch my Ubuntu install a bit later on because of memory constraints on my laptop, she stood with that memory of how easy it was for her to use that interface. In fact, that enough proves to me why Gnome is designed around so-called HIGs (Human Interface Guidelines).I strongly believe that it should be possible to make Linux more accessible to people. In fact, I'm at the very least an admirer of the Free Software Foundation's mission of making free (as in freedom) software the standard for the entire world, no matter how hard or long it takes to do that. That's why I'm aiming to save for and buy a bunch of Pine64 hardware: I want to help push Linux to the mainstream in my free time, somehow. And that, for me, should mean contributing in whatever way I can with adapting Linux in any hardware possible, even the elite gaming sort. In fact, given the disruptive nature of the Steam Deck (whose SteamOS 3.0 is based on Manjaro KDE, which is of course based on Arch), I believe we're in quite the best timing to achieve that goal! To put it in an analogous way to city planning, we must first aim to be like Copenhagen, and then we should aim to be like Amsterdam.

@VTuberLoreSimp @Jain Yeah, I too think getting more people using Linux would be beneficial. And if we want to achieve that, we need to cater to users who have been brainwas^W^W grown up with Microsoft products. Now, that's not to say every Linux distro or DE should do that. Definitely not. But we could have one or two that cater to this userbase, while letting other distros stay focused on their existing userbase.

@VTuberLoreSimp @Jain Also, personally, I'd rather not try to convince people to switch to Linux, because while it may be beneficial on average / in the long term for people to switch to Linux, I can't be sure it will be immediately beneficial to that particular person, and I don't want to hang around forever to help them with any Linux-specific issues they have. But if you can get people to use Linux and not regret it, more power to you!

@wolf480pl @Jain That's pretty much what Linus said at the end of part 3 of his Linux challenge, actually! My hopes are definitely there. One or two distros that are as user friendly as possible. I think that, if we think about it, there are a few that can fit the bill, like PureOS!
