Everyone needs to contact their senators ( https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm ).and demand that they vote NO for HR 550. This would expand the CDC reach to database vaccination status, etc. Given the Federal Gov's propensity of over reach and power abuse, this is obviously a very bad idea. And how about we make the CDC actual get another database in order and with accurate reporting... Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)

@fikran They use the database to come to unvaxed houses and take the people to "re-education camps"... They use the database to deny healthcare, social security, medicare, housing, etc to those who refuse to do as the fed gov says....They decide the gov should just take the assets of anyone who they decide they need to take to their special camps....There is no legitimate reason for the feds to track an individuals medical records. Me and my doctor can do that just fine without them.

@BobB But, isn't that already the case? For example, if I do not pay my taxes I can get arrested. If you do not sign up for the selective service you can get denied a job. However, the idea is that the benefit from taxes or having a theoretical draft is superior.

@fikran We will need to get rid of the 16th amendment in order to get rid of income tax. Worth doing, but difficult after it was actually made an amendment. Selective service was put in place to do away with the actual draft. Government has a history of doing an action under for one reason and then growing it out of control or using it in a totally different way than was intended. Best to nip new issues in the bud. Then we can start to trim the tree.

For example, if the US ever went to war with China that might require a draft or else we'd lose. Generally speaking, people recognize that there are times to limit liberty in such situations. Or do you disagree with that? I gather that you are a liberal, but curious if you temper that in such situations?I personally see COVID like a war in that the cost on society are extremely high. I'm personally willing to give up some freedom here, even being aware of how the government could abuse that data because its still a fair trade off. @fikran @BobB Those are people who died *with* covid, not *from* covid, and the average age of covid deaths in the US is the same as it was before covid. Even taking your line of reasoning at face value, grounding reducing liberty in covid risk simply doesn't hold up.

@Godcast @BobB I don’t know how to make that distinction. However, I think the point isn’t to showcase those specific figures but that quite a few people are dying/getting sick. These numbers aren’t limited to the US, they’re global.Why doesn’t it hold up?What I will say is, there definitely are side-effects to the vaccines. Undeniably so. There’s even data on it (bad data, but its a solid start). But reporting on this seems to be suppressed, at least by social media giants.

@fikran @BobB People get sick and die all the time. The issue with covid is *who* is getting sick and dying. Like with every other coronavirus, the biggest casualties are the elderly. Should we protect them? Absolutely. But unless you're very old or very ill already, your risk of death is minimal. Thats why i say your reasoning doesnt hold up. The coof isnt the bubonic plague fixing to wipe out a third of a continent. We're losing about a month of life from people in nursing homes.Ignoring vaccine side effects, there's no need to mandate such a thing for a virus with a 99.97% chance of survival in even the oldest populations, assuming you get it in the first place. The virus has since mutated to be much more infectious and much less deadly, like every other coronavirus before it.

@Godcast @fikran @BobB Going through Covid as I type this. It’s a meme. If you’re healthy you will probably be fine. My worst symptom is just being tired and dizzy when I stand. I sleep a lot. Drink water. Praise God that it’s been this easy for me but my 75 year old dad and infant daughter both got it too, and by his grace they are also fine.

@fikran @BobB The tradeoff in this situation is that the overwhelming majority of covid deaths are people hooked up to life support already waiting to die. Old people getting sick in what is already effectively quarantine doesnt have any substantial effect on the outside world, thus the need to "do something" to normal people not at risk is totally unnecessary.The only people who can't protect themselves from the coof are the elderly in nursing homes, which ought to have had protocols in place, but didn't. None of that has anything to do with why my friend's restaurant should have to close.Masks are completely ineffective, and the CDC admitted social distancing was arbitrary. The vaccines are all non-sterilizing, meaning it doesn't kill the virus. If it doesnt kill the virus, the virus is alive in vaccinated people and able to mutate. We're not seeing these variants hit hard or come out of unvaccinated populations, they're coming from vaccinated populatioms like Australia and New Zealand. We're in a Marek's disease situation.The juice isnt worth the squeeze if the goal is keeping a population healthy.
