Under current law, if a woman does not want an abortion, she need not have one.By contrast, if Mississippi is upheld, many women seeking abortions will not be able to have them in safe medical conditions. More young women will die from botched procedures than are dying today. These laws do not stop abortion. They make it a privilege for those who can afford to travel or pay doctors out of sight. All this is based on a Fundamentalist Christian idea of when life begins: if upheld, Mississippi will further divide Americans by their religious and philosophic beliefs. This is exactly what our founders sought to avoid: religious warfare, on our own shores. The Court does not know what it's doing, or where it will lead. The outlook is far from promising.2016 was the start of the dismantling of our democracy. The consequences of that election were clear as day.“We didn’t know this would happen." Yes, we told you exactly what would happen. The End of 'Roe':https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/12/abortion-abortion-oral-argument-supreme-court/620874/

@TonyStark I am an atheist. We don't have an authority telling us what to believe. So denying me an abortion interferes with my freedom of religion. In addition, I was raised in a religion that believes that life begins at quickening. So 20-ish weeks, which is in line with what's legal in many states. BUT, it also believes that the life of the mother takes precedence over anything else, so exceptions would always be made for health reasons. And most importantly, we don't live in a theocracy, so the religion of my parents doesn't matter at all. (Also, my mother is pro-choice. That's just what would happen if you did base it on religious texts. I bet if you asked the religious leaders, they'd say leave it up to the pregnant person.)

@MariaHillThat's exactly the point. Follow your own religion or if you don't have one, you don't have to follow anyone's. People with sense know this but now the SCOTUS is stacked with religious nuts.@TonyStark

@SteveRogers It is the point. A lot of people are telling their personal stories of how these decisions would affect them, not that SCOTUS thinks at all about how people are affected. They're not even living by legal principles though, since they don't recognize stare decisis. They're just doing what they want, which is exactly why TFG and Bush (and really, the Federalist Society) put them on the court.@TonyStark

@TonyStark Their premise is flawed. If you’re a particular religion , you call it human life. But our country is not a theocracy, part of the reason we left. So we have a governmental body imposing their religious doctrine on everyone- SCOTUS is full of Catholics.I believed we had separation of church and state.
