@pumpkin I've heard good things? No personal experience. I use DDG :duckduckgo: myself.

@pumpkin I get far better search results with #startpage than #ddg. But yeah... their ownership is troubling.

Many people lost faith in startpage.com since another company (I believe an advert company) started investing in it.Lack of information about new owner is worrying many people, myself included.0. Alternative (focus)1. DuckDuckGo (privacy)2. SearX (search multiple engines, self host)3. Qwant (privacy)4. Ecosia (reforestation funding)If you want to try SearX, you can find public instances here: https://searx.space/https://www.ghacks.net/2019/11/16/startpage-search-owner-changes-raise-serious-questions/@pumpkin

@murtezayesil @pumpkin Something to note about Ecosia tho, is that they only receive money if you click in the ads they show, so if you use ad-blocker or don't interact with ads, using Ecosia is sadly useles

@iooioio can you elaborate on this? Are you talking about startpages ownership or ddg?

@Casinoslcohol Huh. Looks like the original context of this toot has been lost (or I messed up trying to reply in the first place).I was referring to startpage's ownership. It's based in the Netherlands, which is good, but there's some fishy stuff going on, regarding their ownership. There's more info here:https://www.ghacks.net/2019/11/16/startpage-search-owner-changes-raise-serious-questions/The gist of it being that an advertising company now owns a stake in startpage.com but all involved parties are being evasive about details.
