YES ...women are naive. Many intersecting forces currently are and have always been intent on making it so and keeping it that way, including women’s wiggling refusals to stand in truth. While these are largely heterosexual women most are committed to staying single unless their male partners show up with and sustain what they call “high value behaviors” , the “something is better than nothing” compromise is never peddled here and is harshly shot down. One of the worst things in modernity is the way we have told women that by having standards will lose their chance at a relationship. Or that they should have no expectations of men, except asking for consent. The main thrust of the sub is about having standards and appropriate expectations of men for women who recognise that a relationship/family/commitment is something they want. @sleepwalker @A_Matriarch In FDS men is not a need, it's want. The place is not perfect, but it's a huge step up from regular heterosexual female spaces. Separatism requires strong sacrifice from heterosexual women, and nobody wants to be a sacrifice. But to raise your standards until someone worthwhile comes along and not compromise sounds like a good and doable idea. I think the process of liberation is not going to come from extreme sweeping revolution, but slow step by step taking back our self perception, our dignity and our lives.

It can been jarring and disappointing but I accept it as a part of accepting women’s right to run a space strictly according to their principles and needs. Everywhere else on the internet is such a Wild West free for all of low standards or outright hostile horseshit when it comes to prioritizing women. We can’t re direct culture that way. Boundaries and standards of inclusion/exclusion are indispensable and necessary tools for growth and sustainability of movements. Even when I err on the wrong side of what those women believe -and I do on occasion-, I choose to respect their value system and don’t demand they change to accommodate me. I can build elsewhere if I break with them in opinion on something and that’s a big part of why I’m here on Spinster trying to grow my own platform.

But they would never call themselves separatist, or even celibate. Even though that is the life they are living. I do also generally disagree with their stance on marriage. I don't think an institution of marriage is salvageable.I think majority of users there come from more conservative and religious backgrounds so for someone like that to say, I have standards and I have boundaries, it's a huge upgrade.

I don’t have an easy solution for it other than what I’ve already done which is take my difference of opinion elsewhere where I’m at the wheel of decision making, not at anyone’s mercy, and have free reign to explore and invest in the particular pet issues I deviate from them on. For example they ban women on the thread from promoting meetups for FDS women - and for understandable reasons. They exist on Reddit which is a seething hotbed of virulent misogynist Incel RP sewage lurkers, women who even leave their DMs open get flooded with terroristic attacks for being members of FDS, therefore its highly possible that male contaminant would try to find their way into any meetup or event promoted there and take the opportunity to carry out a terroristic attack in person. This is not paranoia. Reddit has a higher than average concentration of dangerous men and FDS sits in the center of that hostile territory trying to hold its ground. Very admirable and proud work, but event promotion has to go. I do it on my spinster page instead . That’s the only right I have but it’s a big one.

Wealthy men tend to be less compassionate in the first place in comparison to their poorer counterparts. I got kicked out for something but I don't remember what it was. I've been kicked out of a bunch of subreddits for ridiculous things. Luckily, I am happily married to a man who doesn't do all those horrible things that are described in FDS. I think it's a function of age, because he's in his 70s, I'm in my 60s and we grew up in an era when porn consisted of Playboy magazines instead of the violent abusive shit they peddle now. I don't know if there are any young men who are not pornsick. In other subs, anytime a woman stands up for women's rights, or mentions the harms of pornography, rape statistics, or the overwhelming stats on male violence there are incels who will assume you must be one of those "fat ugly chicks on FDS". And indulge in whataboutism. My mother never told me anything warning me about dating men, and I wish she had. I wish she'd told me not to go to parties and get drunk so men could rape me. I wish she'd told me not to put up with men who put you down and verbally abuse. It would have saved me decades of heartache and a couple of divorces, the second of which was 2-1/2 years long and pretty nasty, because I was divorcing a narcissist who made up his whole fantasy world on the spot about how terrible I and my parents were. He told the babysitter that he was going to "destroy" me and destroy my elderly parents. He said he was going to "put us in the ground". This is narcissistic rage. What did we do to him that was so terrible? My parents bought him a brand new Ford diesel van so that he and I and the baby could travel in comfort. He had an old shitbox Ford van he was too cheap to put air conditioning in, and once we were coming home from my parents' house and the baby was red-faced and crying all the way home from the heat. So I told them about it, and they spent many thousands of dollars making sure their daughter and only grandchild were comfortable. I really don't know what he does to people who are actually mean to him. Everything he made up in his head was consistent in his own world, but his world was 180 degrees opposite to what the Reality Channel was. He was so self centered that he thought I did everything I did around him, was to piss him off. Never occurred to him that I didn't care about his opinion. I was working and going to school and raising a baby and all those normal things people do. I found out that you don't know who someone really is until you live with them. I went to high school with the guy, his family knew mine, his parents went to the same church mine did, yada yada, but he's a sick bastard who hides his subtle cruelty. I think that FDS is doing a huge public service to women, and I was never told about red flags and men who drain you emotionally and financially. I was very lucky that this man did not literally kill me by nagging me until my health broke. He never hit me or slapped me, but he damn near killed me anyway. I was in and out of hospitals for 8 or 9 years, and was afraid my immune system would never recover, and I'd die. He just wasted many years of my life and I had to pay him child support until our daughter graduated from high school. He blamed me for not being able to work when he's the one that made me sick in the first place.

If it's a woman whose politics we don't agree with, the man will take our derision as admission that women can't lead. If it's a leader we support, we become a convenient target to unleash his vitriol against that woman. In nearly every corporate atmosphere that I have experienced, women tend to keep their political affiliations to themselves, while the men (usually conservative) loudly bray their preferences, and viciously cut up opposing politicians, candidates, and their supporters. While I don't necessarily think political activism is appropriate in the workplace, men do it aggressively, while women are punished for it. This dynamic plays out in families as well. My mother was always a liberal Democrat, and I thought she was the only one in the whole family who held those values. My father is a staunch conservative, and would bully anyone who expressed a progressive opinion into silence. He's a tall, towering brute who boxed in college, prone to pounding on the dinner table with his fist. I have gone years without speaking to him. I recently learned that my favorite cousin is a progressive. How does something like that remain a secret for 50 years? I really needed support as a young woman, and this cousin was seated at the dinner table with us the first time I stood up to my father, and she said nothing. I was made to feel like the freak of the family, a total outsider, while there were a couple of people who shared my views but were too cowardly to support me, even privately. Men are to blame, per usual. But WOMEN need to put our fears aside and support each other. If more women were willing to dismiss the criticisms of men and stand together, we would recognize how much leverage we already possess. Maybe the next feminist movement should be "Piss A Man Off Today". Yeah, it could be risky. Pick your battles carefully. But maybe tell some Trumper in line at the grocery store that he's a despicable bigot. Troll an anti-choice creep on social media. Disagree firmly and loudly with a family member who has his head up his ass, instead of quietly ignoring him. Get comfortable not letting things go. Out of the million microaggressions that women experience daily, there has to be a couple of incidents where you just say FUCK THIS, and let some idiot catch your truth bomb in the face. Men are dialing up the incivility. We can play that game, too. We don't have to be nice. We don't have to be perfect. We deserve respect just as we are, and we deserve REPRESENTATION WITHOUT APOLOGY.
