@Moon the reason they give for deleting the article is sound though:Delete as synthesis, and a violation of WP:NPOV policy. There is no doubt that ‘communist regimes’ as defined in the article have perpetrated many atrocities, but that isn’t the issue. The question that needs to be asked is whether ‘Mass killings under communist regimes’ is a legitimate subject for an encyclopaedic article. And I would have to suggest that the article in question does little to justify that claim. A few writers have certainly seen it as a legitimate subject for discussion, but by and large, credible mainstream histography tends to neither lump all ‘communist regimes’ together as a subject for scrutiny when discussing ‘mass killing’ or to treat them as some sort of special case requiring unique analysis.

@ic3l9 there's enough analysis of it that's legitimate, at least by the criteria of other articles in wiki that aren't threatened with deletion. this fight happens all the time. the joke is that frivolous articles barely get touched (they do sometimes but only if they annoy a particular editor)

@ic3l9 there's a constant fight on wikipedia about categorization, like what things you can combine into a single article, it has to require scholarship but scholarship isn't enough to protect an article from deletion. I've lost faith in wiki for a long time now, ever since about the iraq war 2.

@Moon @ic3l9 i find that a lot of writing about that type of thing (not necessarily communists in particular but anyone who is persona non grata to our media for whatever reason) tends to rely on the person doing the atrocity being some kind of cartoon villain? like i find it very easy to understand why the CIA tried to kill castro and why they overthrew arbenz or [insert crime against humanity here] but for a lot of the claims against china or korea or russia or whatever, the justification tends to boil down to “because he’s evil” and that just doesn’t track to me - which isnt me saying those leaders have never done anything bad, but it also means i absolutely wont participate in any western-led condemnation of them until my own countries military is back the fuck in our borders where it belongs and not meddling in everyone else’s affairs
