My current PC, an old Packard Bell desktop, is getting very noisy. It turns out that the noise comes from the fan of the power supply. Generally easy to fix but I'm not too eager to open the power supply.

@jinxd You're probably right, I already started looking on our local Graigslist.

@ericbuijs It looks like you're pointing out the top fan? (Which probably isn't part if the PSU)

@ericbuijs Yeah. I mean, its possible, but those capacitors are lethal..a repair shop would be better. Being packard bell, I'll almost assume its a non standard sized one...

@bhart You're right. The video is misleading. The noise comes from the PSU not the top fan.

@jinxd Unfortunately, yes it's a non-standard power supply. I did find someone who's selling this exact type of PC for a couple of bucks though. With that I could swap the PSU and have the other spare parts as a bonus.

@ericbuijs Ive had some DELLs too ..always non standard sizes (mobo, PSU...etc). Very annoying. It's by design ...

@jinxd It is. I did build most PC's myself with standard components which is a bless but this one I could get for free from my neighbors.

I've found the noisy culprit. It turned out it was not the power supply at all but the fan of the ATI Radeon HD5450.

@ericbuijs @ericbuijs My suggestion is to rip out that old fan and to ziptie a silent Noctua fan to that mighty powerful GPU, as it isn't the prettiest card anyway. Depending on how large the heatsink is you could go with either a 60 or 80mm fan, I'd say!Might be a good time to replace the thermal compaund as well :)

@totoroot Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking of replacing the card altogether. They can be bought locally for 15 euro with 1Gb (this one has 512Mb).
