Keep in mind im not engaging with luna simply because the server is silenced due to aforementioned reasons. For me women's rights are one among several things that matter to me and I dont generally prioritize one above another. There are degrees to both hate and bigotry, but even moderate bigotry is quite appalling on its own.As for her comments on "predatory" i suspect she has very different views on what constitutes predatory, but maybe not. Regardless predatory women, men, trans, CIS, whatever is not acceptable. I really see no need to qualify a persons gender when talking about how predatory anything is bad... not entierly sure how someone can be predatory to someones orientation though, not even sure what that means.Finally, I do appreciate the apology for the harassment and thank you for saying so. As far as I know Jar wasnt involved in that so I do not hold that against her in and of itself. @ullard They're not only tolerant of different opinions, but of making mistakes. A single mistake will get you branded as a heathen by "The Left", and you'll never lose this insignia. The right-wing people I know (both IRL and online) seem way less upset if you make a mistake, and less interested in holding that mistake against you in the future. They'll gladly engage you in pretty much any discussion on any viewpoint, and less likely to hold anything you say during such a discussion against you for the rest of your life. Granted, there are exceptions to everything on both sides, this is just my "lived experience" and some generalization.

I think the left used to be more pro free speech and the right was not, (USA perspective) but now that “progressive” positions are popular, they need everyone to follow it exactly, and so try to silence other viewpoints, instead of continuing to follow their former free speech values. So the right leaning areas have become where those with different opinions can gather with a bit more ease, since their views are automatically unpopular. Free speech areas are a bit overwhelmed by right wing because of this. Luckily, I have discovered a few traditional left leaning people in my life, usually older, who still support free speech as well as progressive values. I’m hopeful that things will change though as I think everyone is becoming exhausted by the constant fear of trying to follow daily language and avoid cancellation.

Like Spinster is sort of clustered around a group of beliefs, but there are a lot of different types of people on FSE, including people that dislike freedom of speech as a concept.I think the timeline makes it kind of obvious what you are signing up for before joining, so it's not always the case that people are tolerant of different views, but they don't expect that the views will be removed. One exception to this is the "MAP" people: people kind of expect that *this* opinion will still get someone banned on the server that doesn't ban anyone for an opinion. (There is an exception to this, that self-admitted pedophiles are banned if they interact with known minors.) We only had a few noisy ones, but they're gone (one for I don't remember what, one for posting a child in a bikini after being warned, and the other for interacting with minors after being warned).
