The same accusations leveled against cryptography, are also used against guns. In the first case even leftists agree that crytpography is just a tool and cannot be banned (or compromised) because of some people that use it for evil. In the case of guns on the other hand, almost no-one (outside the US I suppose) seem to understand this.

@awry euros typically see government as good and want more of it, america government is bad and was assumed to eventually become an enemy of the people

@socjuswiz Killing in itself is not bad. Killing in self-defense, for example, is universally accepted as ethical. But people keep saying that the ban on guns (for the subjects - not for the state) is legitimate because guns are also used for murder (mass murder by the state doesn't count)! Well, cryptography had suffered the same kind of accusations: they say that cryptography enables pedophiles, gangsters and terrorist. And it's true. So do telephone, cars etc. That doesn't mean that we must ban everything. That just means feelz are not a good guide in political philosophy.
