@luke Thanks, Luke, for making me feel like I'm not the only asshole telling people they're freaking COWARDS.Me too, I've left everything behind many times before, and then life takes me wherever I have to be, no matter what. People nowadays are giant pussies.

@luke Totally spot on, if you are in a corporate slave job at least switch jobs every few years, this will teach you to not get attached and make you much more competitive. It is scary at first you once you get good at it you can start demanding outrageous salary increases 👍 Glad yo see you keep calling out this covid stupidity

Lecture of the day: Be like Richard Stallman. So the obvious grain of salt in this advice: Sometimes you will have to compromise for the sake of something higher. If, for instance, you have a family to feed, better think twice before blindly “standing up for your principles” at work. Autistically following this advice can harm you. If one only has responsibility for oneself, that’s a different story of course, but even then: Getting your principles in order and drop all the stupid and autistic ones before standing up for them seems obligatory to me. As an example, rejecting the vaccine on the prinpicle of rejecting the social pressure of getting vaccinated and not wanting to “be told what to inject in one’s body” seems very stupid to me. If there’s something at stake, why would you risk it by making a scene about a moot issue? (On the other hand, if one has well-researched concerns about the safety of the vaccine, rejecting to take the vaccine is of course very legitimate.) In the same vein, I consider it generally advisable to hide your power level from peers who are no friends. Anyway, I think your view on this will slightly change once you have children, Luke. Nevertheless I support the general line of your advice!

On your point about universities extracting more and more subservience from you, that is beyond true. My uni not only requires this stupid Coronachan vaccine but a FLU vaccine too.

@jr Heavens – where is this? Here in Germany, people are already talking about a compulsory vaccination for all adults, they are all such sycophants, but so far universities are still open and only ask of people to show that they’re either vaccinated, naturally immunised or negatively tested. Furthermore, I’m not obliged to wear a mask when giving lectures and students aren’t either (in most cases at least). But 90–95 % of students are vaccinated here anyhow. Still, I’m quite content that my university has handled this nonsense quite reasonably so far and I hope they stick to it even when many of our hospitals become overloaded again in a few weeks.

One more thing. Surround yourself with Godly people who will encourage you to stand up for what's right. My priest and parish (Russian Orthodox) have definitely helped me be braver. Also, pray to St. Alexander Nevsky to intercede for you. He defended Holy Russia against Mongols and Germs!

@z@videos.lukesmith.xyz Those who concede on principles to feed their children only guarantee that those children inherit a world void of those principles.

@mind_aint_right@video.ploud.jp And those who don’t only guarantee that those children won’t be there to stand for the principles that their parents couldn’t stand for. I don’t know, man. There’s a bunch of nice-sounding sentences we could throw around. Here’s another one: Life tends to be complex and nuanced. Make of this what you wish.
