       Of course it's overhyped. The concept is put out there. The concept is promoted by the propaganda arm of the Republicans. Right-wing politicians bend their talking points around the concept. The public that is tuned into propaganda becomes paranoid. The right wing churns the paranoid feeding frenzy. Most of the media complies.Every cycle it's been something else - caravan lies, a fake border crisis, now schools. I find it amazing that a segment of our society doesn't recognize what's happening to them. Republicans still have no clue how to work with other Americans who are elected to represent their constituents to get positive things done.        @TonyStark I think the goal isn't to make them paranoid. The goal is to stir up controversy. A politician's wet dream is some public issue that will have no effect on the economy whatsoever, and yet people will die before they come to an agreement on it. Propaganda about how masks are tyranny is aimed at the maskers as much as the anti-maskers, trying to get all of us angry so we won't work with the other side, and so isolated we can be picked off at leisure by special interests.

       @cyI might frame that a little differently. "Maskers" aren't really a group that is doing anything but following public health and safety guidance measures. I can't speak for anyone but me, but I don’t hate people who've fallen victim to propaganda and paranoia. I'd love to work with them.However, as a person whose spoken up rationally and reasonably at school board meetings, they sure hate me. 5 of our Democratic school board members have been threatened with violence and vandalism. Some has been committed. It's past time those people become workable, not me.
