@macha Hospitals in the US have only just started thinking gas and air is acceptable in the last five years. My ob recommended it to me for my last labor (it made me sick). They’ve cutting down on pain medication in the US for pregnant and postpartum women drastically to stop us all from being addicted (but men in surgery get whatever they want). Seriously, why is it always women who get shamed about pain relief in any form?

Someone started saving all the pill packets and in 10weeks had a giant bag, which she took to the participating chemist on a trip out (near a hospital appt mibbe?) and it was such a big bag it filled the container that had been supplied by Terracycle. They've had to cut back the scheme. There's none I can reach from where I live. so it all goes in landfill. the boxes and safety leaflets all go in the standard recycling of course.

The advantage is that they're so light, small, waterproof, and disposable. Anything that traps one's own body heat can be a blanket.Personally I would not prefer to sleep in a crisp bag, but I might if it was that or freezing.
