@pasture I tried using the relay on a temporary instance I was messing around with and found it only relays stuff that was interacted with directly by people who where added to the relay (e.g. If I added you it would only convey stuff you reacted, favorited, or responded to, but not all activity on your instance). Is there way to relay ALL of an instance without manually following all users?

@pasture (never used a follow bot, but am guessing this is why they are used)

@icscarythings follow bots are used by people too dumb to use relaysusing a relay is also dumb imo, you should discover users yourself and follow people you like instead of clogging your server with garbage posts you'll never read

@icscarythings i'm not sure what you're referring to - relays are supposed to send all content to subscribers. you can't add individual users to relays, that's just following them. you can however use an instance relay if you want all posts on a specific instance but they are pleroma only and can be turned off, i believe the actor URI is https://instance.tld/relay

@pasture @icscarythings i dont like the ghost repost that happens with relays, i got the dumbest complaint of them all. i do think relays bloat your db size a massive amount though from what i've seen though, way beyond a negligible amount

@Sterence @pasture @icscarythings not if you use the built in tools to prevent this it doesnt poasts DB hovers around 100-120GB for the last several weeks depending on when in its cycle I check itwe purge remote poasts every ~3 days but we retain the userdata which, without the relay, you dont get and miss out on that federationwe also dont have the ghost repost issue because we only follow poasts relay and no other. if you follow a relay and someone else on that relay you will get that 100% of the time and it takes weeks to fix itself

@pasture > i believe the actor URI is https://instance.tld/relayI see. The Pleroma documentation didn't really explain this very well (or at all really) and the Admin panel just provided blanks to enter the URI. So I only thought you could enter https://instance.tld/user/<NAME>; into it which I guess is actually an 'instance follow'.> follow people you like instead of clogging your server with garbage posts you'll never readYou do have a point. Especially with large instances like Poast, FSE, NB, etc., relaying everything would be a bad idea for sure.

@Sterence @icscarythings i used to subscribe to a relay on my mastodong instance and i would clear out a 180GB media cache every 2-3 months (mostly porn btw) and my DB size was always ridiculous. at least pleroma doesn't cache media, but still a waste
