Hell of a day. I got a deer, but didn’t know I hit it. There was no blood, no sign that it was wounded. After searching and tracking my partner and I didn’t find any sign and he bumped and ran. We figured I missed and moved on. On returning 3ish hours later I heard a deer distress call and automatically new my mistake. I slow played down into the draw to try to find him. I found something else. A bear came out of the fern thicket and when it saw me, it charged. I head shot the bear at 10 yards.

@thisisthebreath Yep. Most of it. It was down in a gnarly creek area in an old fire scar, so in order to get it out, I skinned and butchered it in place. I took all the biggest cuts and only left the ribs and neck, since it was getting dark and stormy. Those pieces are also the most work for the least reward. They only hold trim which is stew meat or sausage meat, and not much of it.

@Texzona The deer, I did the worst thing possible, and threw it over my shoulders and powered out. The bear was too heavy, so I have a Mystery Ranch hunting pack. I skimmed the bear, cut the major primal cuts and threw them in game bags, packed em in the pack, and strapped the hide on top to hike out in 1 load.
