       Is there something I should keep in mind when selecting a #Matrix server to create an account to? I'm avoiding matrix.org as there is plenty of people already.Maybe one that is geographically nearby (within EU) at the very least. Any suggestions?Next one after that would be #Pixelfed which has more things to think about, like how much space available for photos for example.

       @jkoski matrix servers have different features, and they vary alot. Some big considerations are things like 1) how much of the history does it pull down for foreign channels 2) what extra features for room administration does it provide (for example are ephemeral rooms turned on as a feature). Is the labs turn on?QOTO matrix server is focused on an all-in approach, and runs off some hefty servers to do this. For example we pull down all room history (this is rarely done) and have almost all extra features turned on.

       @jkoski is it gonna stick around for a while (at least until decentralized accounts)?does it have a turn server?is it well maintained and up to date, and performant?does it have retention policies in place?political views which could cause conflict?file upload size

       @jkoski list of #Matrix servers at https://the-federation.info/protocol/matrix is quite complete with no reliability uptime stats. But sorting by latest version number may give an indication of how much attention it is given
