What skill or career did one of your parents have that gave you some perk that wasn't money or social networking?Learning skills from them, having access to unusual equipment, or having direct access to your parent as an expert are good examples. It doesn't have to be big, it could be just nice or even fun, like an artistic parent making gifts with their skills.

@urusan I've learned a lot of basic DIY from both my parents (eg putting down floors, putting in plumbing work, putting in/replacing light switches and wall sockets, painting/wallpapering, that kind of stuff), and a decent starting set of cooking skills from my mum

@urusan my dad taught me how to develop film and print photos but that technology became obsolete. more importantly, ha taught me to never stop asking. answered all my questions until they become absurd

@urusan My dad was a draughtman who also taught technical drawing. He passed on this gift to me. My chosen career path, although not exactly the same, was heavily influenced by him.As for perks: since he retired, he's been heavily into woodworking, building furniture for the whole family without even accepting to get compensated for the wood costs.
