Thinking about projects like FreeTube, NewPipe, and Invidious, there's a lot of options for creating a new front-end on YouTube and using it away from the core site itself. What's always lacking, and gets brought up with people I introduce these things to, is commenting/liking etc. With smaller accounts, the ability to interact with the uploader is part of the appeal, I think, and a lack of interactivity turns people off.Of course, I'm sure YouTube's API limits third party access to keep that interactivity off limits... why wouldn't they, after all. So there's no way to provide direct interactivity with the YouTube side of things. But I wonder if something akin to Gab's Dissenter wouldn't be an interesting addition. Something self-hosted, like Invidious, that bolts onto the side of it (or NewPipe, or FreeTube) and creates a parallel comment section users on alternate front-ends could actually interact with.

@JapanAnon Thing is, when you like something it gets added to a list of videos you like. Now with a third part tacked on, maybe it can do a list of its own but you miss your old list if you want to go back to videos you liked.

@coin I'm not sure exactly how Dissenter worked, but didn't it peg the comments to the original page URL? So anybody visiting that URL would always see the same set of comments.

@JapanAnon It was just an extension that allowed people to comment on a webpage. Only those with the extension could see comments. It's pretty useless if no one uses it.

@coin ..which is why I think it would benefit from being part of an open plugin designed to slot into these YouTube front-ends. Not a guarantee that it'd get used, but it would be neat if users on NewPipe, FreeTube, and Invidious could optionally enable a Dissenter-like system to use a parallel, cross-platform comment system.

@JapanAnon @coin There is a browser extension for it ( https://github.com/gab-ai-inc/gab-dissenter-extension/releases/tag/r12 ). Perhaps someone more technically inclined could take the source code and repurpose it to do what you propose.

@heavens_feel @coin Yeah, this would require somebody who actually knows what they're doing...I'm still curious about storage, though. I'm assuming the comments and associated metadata are stored on Gab servers for their version, and gets called on by the extension.

@JapanAnon @coin @heavens_feel> With smaller accounts, the ability to interact with the uploader is part of the appeal, I think, and a lack of interactivity turns people off.No 3thrd party comment plugin allows you to communicate with the video uploader. So this kinda pointless?

@dioma @coin @heavens_feel Not unless the uploader knows about and engages with said plugin. Barring that, the ability to interact with other commenters at least is some for of interactivity as opposed to none.

@JapanAnon @coin @heavens_feel new pipe allows you to read commands already. And if you absolutely must comment 'first' on the video, you can open it in a browser and do it there. And what good is it to comment 'first' on a third party comment system, that for a small creator no one uses.

@dioma @coin @heavens_feel NewPipe does not allow you to comment, only read comments made by others on youtube-dot-com.I'm proposing a parallel form of interactivity to allow NewPipe/FreeTube/etc users to comment on videos, and respond to the comments of others.

@JapanAnon @coin @dioma I don't know if this will be useful for what you have in mind but I was able to embed the dissenter page inside my pages on my website. Perhaps this might also be of use. http://heavens-feel.com/rlyehantique.html

@heavens_feel Is it visible on the top page? I went to look around, but I didn't see anything that looked like it... I do have a lot of script blockers and such, though.

@JapanAnon Feel free to look through the html for the page. Maybe this and the dissenter plugin could be used to generate alternate web pages for videos where people could leave comments and creators could interact (chat) with fans without dealing with google or other malign entities.
