@kumicota the HDMI complaint made me a little mad. DisplayPort is way better. Sadly I saw recently that newer models like the T580 use HDMI, and you need to use USB-C or the docking station to get DisplayPort now.

@brad @kumicota That's a victim of users being stupid. As someone who works in an IT department and has delivered hundreds of ThinkPads at this point. Someone being angry and going "Why does this laptop only have this weird old connector instead of something modern like HDMI" while pointing at DP happens at least monthly.If stuff like the TVs people had at home used DP rather than HDMI maybe people would actually realize it's a good connector. But they think it's some old crap connector because it's not compatible with the VGA and HDMI monitor they have at home, or the TV in their living room.followed by me trying to figure out the least mean way of saying "It's not the laptop that's shit, it's your monitor at home that's shit"

@quad @kumicota I still can't believe HDMI "won" and is basically the only video connector with nothing to keep it held in (there's also USB-C now, I guess). No screws or clips. I used to kick HDMI cables out of my monitor semi-regularly at one point in time.

@brad @kumicota @quad unfortunately, HDMI was ~5 years earlier, and was designed by the usual suspects (Panasonic, Phillips, Sony, Toshiba) so it's not surprising it's so prevalent in TVs and adjacent stuff.
