@boilingsteam The guy posting the bug is absolutely disrespectful. People need to stop being entitled when it comes to other people FLOSS programs that they get for free.

@dreeg The end user is always right. That's how you end up with fragments of % of market share. This kind of shit from Firefox will just make everyone move away from it. Note that this is a very long term user complaining: you don't want to lose them.

@boilingsteam > The end user is always right. NO> That's how you end up with fragments of % of market share.Obviously, it is Chrome got that much market share by being super respectful of their users, and not having advertisement. /s

@dreeg Chrome has been a superior product to Firefox (technically) for numerous years before Firefox decided to catch up. That's why they lost share. Now what remains is FOSS and Privacy caring folks and Mozilla is shooting ads at them, completely oblivious to who is currently still using Firefox.

@dreeg > NOI beg to disagree with that. If you don't respect your end users, you are going nowhere. That's product design 101.

@dreeg its not about implementing everything. Its showing you are willing to listen to them and consider their viewpoint. Anything else is just being an asshole.

@dreeg Maybe the user is being an asshole. But even if that's the case, your reaction to an asshole should not be to fall at their level. I'm not Mac lover, but ever seen the Steve Jobs video where he answers an asshole? That's how you answer while disagreeing, not by saying "fork the project if you are happy with it". Such bad PR from Mozilla.

@boilingsteam > ever seen the Steve Jobs video where he answers an assholeNope. Can I have a link?> Such bad PR from Mozilla.I'm not even sure that the guy who wrote the reply in the ticket works for Mozilla. He seems to have a blog where he talks a lot about Gnome and his last post about Firefox was in 2014.It's incredibly rare to actually see companies address that kind of user complaints, even more so when they are this rude.

@dreeg Klapper does not apparently work directly for Mozilla, yet he seems to be involved in bug reporting/triaging for several FOSS projects: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:AKlapper_(WMF)And he somehow has the right to close bugs, so he may not be a Mozilla employee but has the same powers as they have.

@boilingsteam Librewolf is a better alternative for those that like Firefox as a base and Brave is better for those who prefer Chromium. Time for the Linux community to move beyond Firefox and Mozilla.

@mostly_linux I like Abrowser myself although I just noticed LibreWolf has a Flatpack option for install so I may have to give it a try on a couple distros that I can't get Abrowser on.

@falktx They don't even have a plan on how to survive, and instead they keep doing side-projects (nobody was waiting for them to do a VPN service, it's not like we lack choice) - and paying execs millions instead of cutting down the fat in the hierarchy. They are completely useless at this point.

@falktx If you want to see what good decisions look like when building a browser, look no further than Brave: they are small but are building a following month after month instead of dropping like a rock.

I didn't notice this superiority as end user (myself I use FIrefox almost since the beginning but at work standard browser is Chrome). It is a little faster better enterprise-oriented but has enough bugs and quirks. Most of Chrome advantages come from better compatibility with Google products (surprise!).I don't see something particularly horrid about that VPN mention in new private tab. Myself I find Mozilla VPN questionable feature which I won't use myself (just like I don't use Pocket or their password manager) but hey, it is part of their services, why can't they showcase it?Also this particular feature doesn't go against either FOSS or privacy ideas. It is not a tracking ad, it is not a third party ad, the Firefox is still free to use and OS, forks are free to remove it (and certainly will).

@falktx I'm not talking about the FOSS aspects when it comes to Brave - I would not use it either. But at least they found a way to compete against bigger browsers and to grow, despite having way less resources than Firefox.

@falktx You can't survive with that kind of side projects. There needs to be big reckoning at Firefox that their budget is not sustainable without Sauron's money (Google) and they need to massively scale-down their operations and stop side-projects because they just cannot afford to waste any kind of time on making bullshit services without biz model (like Firefox Send).I don't hate Firefox (been using it for 15 years), but that does not prevent me from finding Mozilla broken and inefficient.
