maybe it's just my childhood speaking but I actually really enjoy the tim burton version of charlie and the chocolate factory and i feel like if the book or gene wilder move hadn't existed it would have been better-received i mean gene wilder was a good wonka but attractive socially awkward childish wonka was actually a really good take on the character

@yuigajelly I really love and appreciate Gene Wilder, but his take on Dahl's story is completely different from how Depp/Burton portrayed the story, and arguably, Burton's take is actually more comparable to the original stories compared to the original Wilder version. If anything, people have too much nostalgia for "Pure Imagination", and it's probably why Burton's film was shit on back then and still to this day. A lot of people did not like Elfman's reimagining of the music.

@yuigajelly BRO I forever have had the "Augustus Gloop" song from Burton's film stuck in my head ever since I first watched it in the theater for the very first time.

@yuigajelly I have such vivid memories of the Gene Wilder version that it's hard for me to not think of it when I watch the newer one. I think it's an ok movie on it's own, but it's just doomed to live under the older one's shadow regardless just because of how impactful it was in many people's childhoods.

@Kallian true, but now the people who had the tim burton ver in their childhood are now grown up and remembering it fondly and making memes about it and such, im one of those people who had it in her childhood. though i always stepped out of the room in the part where the puppets caught on fire and melted cause it scared me

@yuigajelly That reminds me of the boat scene in the older film. It freaked me the fuck out as a kid.
