Money is a shitty imperfect proxy for value.

@twodimes I’d even wager that money is shitty, period. Especially when all of it sits in the accounts of the few. I long for the Star Trek reality when it’s a thing of the past and isn’t the driving force behind everything.

@pimoore look, I'm a big fan of money on the micro scale - there's some sort of problem that needs to get solved when you're trying to trade 1/80th of a goat for a cup of coffee. But I feel like at a macro level it's a proxy that's being gamed.I'm writing a post to expand on that but it's in my drafts because I need to finish this paper for school so I can take my kids out for Halloween tomorrow ;)

@twodimes I’d very much like to read that when it’s done. Money is absolutely being gamed, by the wealthy for the wealthy.

@pimoore @twodimes when the wealthy control the printing presses, it's not going to go to the other classes. But we keep supporting candidates and parties entrenched in the corrupt system. Andrew Yang was the closest we've gotten to a candidate that was going to give money to everyone without the rich controlling the strings. Not sure it was going to work as intended, but it's a better idea than the current spending packages on the table...

@Danbert8 @twodimes Exactly, trickle down is a sad myth. Until the puppet strings are cut the wealthy will always call the shots. Without power not being based on wealth it will always be the tail wagging the dog.

@pimoore the gist of my post is it's like when search engines used to use frequency of your search as a proxy for relevance and then everyone put all the search times in the header 5000x to game the rankings.Money is a proxy for value and we need to rejig the rankings because fuckos are gaming the system and claiming they deserve it.

@pimoore @twodimes trickle down could work in theory, but not in a debt fueled economy... The enticement to spend spend spend outweighs any gains in income. Wealth generation and saving should be encouraged, but just look at interest rates for the last decade... Especially now that everything is going to a subscription model, the poor will never accumulate wealth and escape poverty.

@Danbert8 @twodimes Agree with all of that. Though it should be added that redistributing the wealth of all the billionaires (who in no ethical or moral way deserve that much money) could end world poverty several times over. When society is driven by money that’s so utterly and completely unbalanced, it only serves to exacerbate the issue. In some cases regardless of spending, as the cost of *everything* increases.
