I bought a fancy dynamic mic because I didn't want it to pick up anything but my voice, but it's way too quiet to be usable no one can hear me at all :jester: Considering getting a condenser mic instead but worried it will pick up every tiny sound in my room and I was trying to reduce background noiseFeels like my options are stick to shitty static mic, or sped £400 on the Streamer Setup, surely there's an in-between :megudead: If anyone knows about Audio gear I'd be happy for any advice

@Baa You need better preamps, either in your capture device, or by using an inline preamp like a cloud lifter or cheaper alternative.

@Madcucks Hi, thanks for your advice I thought as much when I got the mic, so I got the Behringer UMC22https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FFIGZF6/It's much cheaper than most of the alternatives but I thought it'd be enough what do you reckon?

@Baa You can probably make due with that being that it has phantom power, but I would recommend to upgrading to something that takes external power not just USB, the low voltage in USB makes them cut corners. For now you can find an online preamp like the Dynamite DM1 for about $120 there are cheaper versions available from other places. You'll be surprised how much more you can get out of the mic.

@Baa No problem. If you ever start searching for a whole new interface, the Zoom gear is pretty well made, for the their U-24 is pretty robust compared to the Behringer stuff.

@kai Right up to my mouth :jester: Although I was hoping to get a mic that wouldn't need it but this one was too quiet either way

@Baa do you have all the levels set properly, including the software volume controls in your os and/or recording app? Look up gain staging.

@Baa do you have another computer you can plug it into? I'm just suspicious there is a software volume control somewhere that is set low. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a usable signal out of that hardware.

@kai In Windows it was the same level but it showed the input volume at 53%, I move it to 100% and the mic is decent but there's also loads of static now so I don't know if Windows is just boosting it too high
