       omfg….. my mom has been scammed ‘out of her bankaccount’ :sad_cat:​ Ofc she bought something too good to be true on Facebook and clicked on a nice link that redirects to an OAUTH screen to connect her bank and give permissions and guess what she did :blobcatscared:​I can cry about this omg.. I’ve spend soo many hours trying to teach her digital security but she simple doesn’t understand it.. It always has to go wrong badly before steps are taken😿 At least the account is blocked now but I’m afraid it’s already too late 💸  I can’t fcking believe this shit :sad_cat:​ The link even had the ‘.info’ extension, I mean how much more clear does it needs to be 😞

       @stux I'm sorry for your troubles! This is a real issue that many of us face when we try to advise and guide those we care about when it comes to internet safety.  Unfortunately, it doesn't even appear to be a generational stigma, but rather a matter of people's complacency towards things they don't have a full understanding of.The only thing left to do is just to be sympathetic and supportive, as most likely such things are likely to continue.

       @stux In the USA this would be protected and the liability on the bank. The bank would have to refund the money and take the loss themselves.Maybe the same is true in the netherlands. Worth a try to file a fraud claim with the bank and see what happens.Either way sorry to hear this

       @stux I've often been cautious with IBAN simply because I didnt know if these protections existed. It seems far too easy for a merchant to just not give me what I bought and keep my money.My bike I keep int he netherlands cost me like 10K, my biggest expense in the netherlands, and i will tell you that made me quite paranoid. Only reason i was ok with it is because i knew the stores physical location and visited it before making the order. If they cheated me they were going to have to deal with an american who knows how to make gunpowder from a pile of rocks :)

       @freemo Haha you should indeed 😮 With most stores that have a location it's no worries but many webshops these days have no address or anything and it's hoping you get your items. When you tap/click send in IBAN it's gone and no way to return it :blobcatgiggle:​There's now this issue with Bunq apps that "devs" create and request permissions from your account.. If they have it they can go wild :blob_derpy:​I only use Bunq for business since it's the "cheapest" but as normal account it's expensive as hell and support also kinda suck.. Plus they have no offices

       @markusl Thank you ❤️ For us it's indeed "all day" and "normal" stuff like crossing the road and i gotta be honest, it's sometimes hard for me to imagine the digital thinking of "non-nerds" (so to say :blobcatgiggle:​) But there's also the factor of "wanting" I guess, for example; my mom can get things done if it's on Facebook but if it's outside that domain the knowledge ends and she doesn't wanna know it, i get the feeling

       @stux one of the kids of a relative got scammed out of his steam account the other day, and they ended up calling me to help. fortunately not that much damage was done.  his dad found him about to give his bank account information to someone over discord, and i ended up helping the kid recover his steam account by contacting steam.  but people are fucking gullible as shit.like literally the kid was sending the steam 2-factor codes to the guy over discord, and was then genuinely surprised when they logged into his account and changed his email and password.  i tried to get my friends and relatives to watch scambaiting videos so they get the general shape of these scams.  but people are just so fucking stupid sometimes.
