It looks as if Dune II is greenlit. As far as I'm concerned Dune, the new movie, is unwatchable. UNWATCHABLE!!

@Johncdvorak What was wrong with it according to you? Genuinely interested in your opinion.

@Johncdvorak I prefer the comedy of the 80s movie (Sting yelling "I WILL KILL HIM!" and the blue plastic space y-fronts), but the visual effects and closer following of the novel in plot of the new one.

@Johncdvorak I LOVED Dune Part 1! So awesome. The funny thing is, every time I hear Timothée Chalamet's name, I automatically repeat "goddamn Timothée Chalamet" because of John Mulaney's standup bit.

@Johncdvorak to be fair, the book is a bit of a slog.

@Johncdvorak 2hr30min just to get barely through half of the 1st book. Way too many drawn out scenes. I still enjoyed it enough but it could have been improved (says the slave sitting on a recliner at home bitching)

@Johncdvorak to each their own. I found it beautiful and well done. Best of the Dune movies/miniseries so far. Have not read the book in 30 years but felt like a faithful adaption to the big screen. This is the first version my wife was able to stay interested in and follow. Just hate having to wait 1.5 years for the part 2 to drop.

@Johncdvorak gotta disagree sir. I expected a woke mess but what I saw was a true interpretation of the original book. Looking forward to part 2.

@Johncdvorak it’s a repeat story with key dialog thrown in. Updated tech is dumb oh but the Hindi music draws you in.

@Johncdvorak I love the book and have read it 5 or 6 times, enjoyed the new film immensely for staying largely true to the source material. My wife and I are both tired of super long movies, that was our one complaint. Streamed it at home and split it up over 2 nights.

@Johncdvorak I liked the new movie, but I like the old movie too. Both seemed to have some odd style with tell rather than show. The flow of these movies is weird because they seem to talk to the audience. Example, If you live in a galaxy where everyone around you has a personal forcefield, then everyone knows their limitations, you don't need it explained when you are 25, same as everyone knows not to use a toaster in the swimming pool.

@Johncdvorak I found it to be very watchable and enjoyable. Stayed fairly close to the basic story from the book, which is always a plus. Beautifully shot and constructed, good special effects, and interesting designs for the ships suits and tech. Best thing I can say is that when it got to its stopping point I was annoyed and wanted to see how they would continue the story!

@Johncdvorak I'm one of those "I read the book" people. Sure, I know I come off as an insufferably pretentious jerk, but it saves me from the horror that you experienced when trying to watch a badly interpreted movie version of a perfectly good novel. Just read the book.

@Johncdvorak It matches the book a little bit too closely on these aspects. The first part of Dune has always been a lot of worldbuilding / setup. I see your point!

@Johncdvorak I get where you’re coming from. As a fan of the books and the first movie, I thought they did a good job. To be honest, I felt the book moved too slow after I re-read it in advance of the movie.

@Johncdvorak loved it. To me, caught the tone of the book. Except for Jessica, she seemed a bit too emotional for the character.

@Johncdvorak I like a good slow moving movie if it is constructed well and I think this one was. And the cinematography is top notch.

@Johncdvorak agree, went to the cinema today to see it. The first half was awful, if I wasn't with family and in the cinema I would have walked out. I got more enjoyment watching the new trailer for Ghostbusters.
