Is it me, or was taproot actually a reasonably fast and smooth roll out? This is not a bad paradigm for future soft forks.

@drgo BIP9 Speedy Trial is a bad paradigm because it gives miners a backdoor veto.BIP8 worked as intended.

@lukedashjr I can’t say I understood all of the details of the various activation plans, but everyone exerting their will worked out rather well…it didn’t have to go this well…

@drgo I think Core releasing a contentious protocol change without and even against community wishes, was a new low point for Bitcoin.

@lukedashjr @drgo Luke is right. .I would add, that in the end, the market decides..Not convinced it was significantly contentious., or enough to hold it..The real test is to go live with it.#UASF / #no2x #bitcoin

@lukedashjr would you say taproot was contentious or merely the activation method?

@lukedashjr @drgo what was their reasoning behind the decision?

@drgo the activation method, giving miners a veto and going out of the way to try to sabotage any possible uasf

@lukedashjr agreed. I think giving them the option to move early, as in speedy trial, made a lot of sense. But always reserving a user override to a miner veto is an important lesson, imho.

@Facile @drgo No reasoning, just will to use "dev muscle" and deception to brute force it on the network

@lukedashjr @drgo are we stuck with BIP9 for good? miner veto seems like an egregious error

@lukedashjr @drgo (being a complete noob in bitcoin development and would probably be more of a liability than an asset)protest bitcoin core group? focus on funding a new dev group?

@Facile @drgo More dev voices within Core willing to speak out against such things would help. But as a user, simply refusing to run protocol changes you disagree with, and ensuring the one you do agree with happens (in this case, it was published by @bitcoinmechanic and @shinobimonkey even prior to Core's abuse).
