Some musings on #PeerTube, and some of the struggles going on with content discovery. I don't know if it's necessarily coherent, but I tried my best. https://deadsuperhero.com/peertube-content-wasteland/

@sean One thing I noticed is that the most viewed videos aren’t actually viewed on a PeerTube instance, but viewed embedded somewhere else. Sometimes another ActivityPub based platform like Mastodon, but mostly embedded in an iframe on a webpage. Any thoughts on this?

@frank Mixed opinions. Yeah, it's probably a sizeable audience that you're describing, and is definitely a feature of the fediverse.I have no idea if the viewed counter actually tallies up if the viewer isn't coming from PeerTube, though.Side note: I remember a project a while back that was basically just a website with a bunch of video embeds. I think it was kino.social? Basically, they were working to change over their embeds to PeerTube ones, particularly media provided by VidCommons. So, media embeds off-platform are definitely a thing.

@sean apart from Debian and Blender, er peertube instances are run by people who are interested in peertube and the technology, rather than other stuff (and Debian is not exactly mainstream). My wife is leaning to crochet from YouTube videos, but what are the chances of someone with those skills knowing about peertube rather than youtube. https://peertube.paladyn.org/ has videos from Oxford Phab, but that is an anomaly as I can set up my own server.
