There are (incompletely) preserved sites in Germany too. Sachsenhausen, Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, Ravensbruck to name some. There are more in Germany, and other preserved sites exist outside of Germany and Eastern Europe in the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Austria, and France. Near as I can tell the only country that Germany occupied outside of Eastern Europe that doesn’t have some Holocaust archaeological site is Luxembourg, although they have memorials. Yes, the narrative is that these were not extermination centers, and thus we could say that these places have nothing to do with the Holocaust, but I’m not at all convinced the average person sees is that way and I’m totally convinced that, generally speaking, Jews lump internment camps in with so called death camps as all being part of the “machinery” of the Holocaust.

The ww2 myth is too strongly intertwined with some eastern and western euro countries and they're not giving it up without a fight because it's too geopolitically important. Maybe the best Poland could do is go from "we fought nazism ideologically" to "we were fighting Germans for our geopolitical interests not because we were opposed ideologically to fascism and nazism". But myth is far stronger than cold hard realism.
