So $TSL earns 1/6th of Volkswagen $VOW.DE annually, yet has a 6.5 times higher market cap? That is utterly insane. There is no possible world in which Tesla is ever going to sell 6.5 times the amount of cars that Volkswagen does. Let alone make 6.5 times the revenue. None.

@berkes but if you include the solar roofs, home battery systems, charger station network around the world, etc, then that changes the equation.

@threed No. It does not. All that is *just* breaking even. https://techcrunch.com/2021/07/26/teslas-solar-and-energy-storage-business-rakes-in-810m-finally-exceeds-cost-of-revenue/I'm not saying TSL has no upwards potential: it certainly does. But The upwards potential has to be 333 times the current revenue to even warrant the current valuation. A PE Ratio of 341 is completely insane for a company that has to hire people, build factories, buy raw materials and then build stuff witht that, in order to just grow.

@threed, Also, don't get me wrong: I'm not hating on tesla.I love how Tesla is showing the old industry that you can make billions by embracing change. By fighting climate change. What I dislike is how that hype creates a bubble in investment worlds. Where, if Tesla gets a hiccup, it might pop. Allowing that same old industry to say "see: this is why we keep burning oil/pumping co2/wasting oceans".
