Back when CRTs were common, they would make me physically ill after just a few hours of use. Did anyone else experience that?

@urusan I loved them. But less screen is a good thing if so.

@ubuntuxp @urusan What was it about CRTs that can make people sick?

@evelyn @ubuntuxp I don't know, I only know that it would happen to me pretty consistently. If I had to guess, it was probably something to do with the image produced, as opposed to the X-rays.

@urusan most of the time, no. But, I encountered a few CRT monitors and TVs that would make me feel a little off.

@urusan Could it be psychological? Because if it's due to the tech then other similar gadgets would make you ill too.

@evelyn @urusan CRTs do have a flicker detectable by the outer periphery of vision, which is focused on motion detection rather than detail, and emit a distinctive high-pitched whine. These effects could combine in a way that leads to the brain having trouble processing what it's experiencing and coming to the conclusion it's been poisoned, leading to nausea. The brain pretty much always goes with "I've been poisoned" whenever it doesn't get something.
