@hans_w What i find interesting about the dutch, and this makes me respect them even more so, is that most dutch people are generally pretty traditional in terms of their sexual expression, and yet still very accepting of others who are far from traditional.@icedquinn @lucifargundam

Might be, it has been a while I practiced it there or talked about it :-)Most people I know are ok with anything as long as their is no force or kid things (I agree with that). Maybe the after-war years played a role in this. The Generation that was born in the thirties (my parents) did a lot of things good and bad. One of the things they somehow passed on was a sexual freedom. They also did have a crooked thought about it since they where all raised with the words spoken in churches.My generation took the liberty, enjoyed it and have been open about it. The generation that came next are fucked up for a lot of reason but are not able to enjoy it all as we did

@hans_w As a general rule as long as you arent hurting anyone who isnt consenting, and everyone is of the age of consent you can do anything with your body you want. That isnt just limited to sex but almost anything. I even go so far as to be ok with suicide, even if it is a tragedy.The only time these rules are not particularly straight forward is when we talk about abortions where the fetus may or may not be considered a life with its own bodily autonomy as well. So that one gets hairy. But the general principles in evaluating that situation is still the same for me.@icedquinn @lucifargundam

There are more subjects that would be touched b.t.w., what about Crispr that might help a lot of people (probably even me). With the christian parties in the 1st and 2nd chamber in the Dutch Parliament it will never be solved or decided.I am clear about it. Once you get a bad message your first thought will not be some reli thought. It will be totally different

@hans_w Gene editing on humans is certainly a can of worms, but the ethics there are a bit less direct. Its more about a slipper slope than the effects of any one person making the decision.It is particularly hairy when your modifying your kid who is too young to consent but will be effected by a lifetime. But at least with gene editing, for the most part it is done in the best interest of the child, with an abortion you cant really make that argument,in fact very much the opposite, sacrificing the child for the good of the parent.@icedquinn @lucifargundam

@icedquinn I can see both sides of this issue. On the one hand there is a whole can of worms gene editing will open up that can get VERY ethically ugly and cause all sorts of oppression down the line.On the other hand it is almost a necesity for any intelligent species to engage in it in some form (even if its selective breeding which is ethically just as questionable). The thing is when you build a society where people with health problems are given an equal or near equal chance of surviving as those without then over time society will be come riddled with genetic disease from poor vision, to diabeties, to congential heart defects. In the long run the only way the species will survive is if you start killing off anyone that isnt the best genetic speciment (which of course isnt ethical to anyone except perhaps a Nazi wannabe), or engage in gene editing.@hans_w @lucifargundam

@freemo i don't really see anybody taking it seriously. i do know that since we're not killing ambitious people they're going to keep doing this in secret and keep polling the public every other year until they finally get approval slipped through.the tinfoils seem to be concerned about and debating what happens when a company issues a patented gene therapy and that results in RNA/DNA modifications if that person still qualifies as human and what to do about itotherwise we're pretty much facing ethics lip service while everyone preps designer babies in the basement.@hans_w @lucifargundam

@icedquinn Agreed this is an issue that no one is really addressing well. People either oppose gene editing all together, or take no issue with the current ethics and application and wheres its heading. I dont see any solutions that actually pave a way forward for ethical gene editing on humans.Then again we seem to have an ethics breakdown recently in the most general sense that is headed towards a train wreck to. The ethically minded have educed everything to such extremes as to be self destructive meanwhile everyone else is so sick of being called a racist for nonsense that they are in full on "fuck you" mode. @PorkCow It is neccesary due to how genes evolve and work overtime. As medical science is able to treat genetic disease better and give someone a normal lifespan with an otherwise debilitating disease then that disease is no longer selected against very strongly and can proliferate throughout society.So the end result of modern medical science is, over time, genetic diseases becoming more common until you have a future where everyone is wheelchair bound with cerebral palsy, half blind and only able to see with medical devices and effectively on life support from the first day of their life. This gives a rather concerning quality of life for future humans if we dont ethically implement gene editing before it gets to that point.@icedquinn @hans_w @lucifargundam

@freemo @icedquinn @hans_w @lucifargundam Killing is a bit extreme and not really needed to prevent dysgenic outcomes. Simply sterilizing men who don’t pass a genetic test would give most of the effect without the mass murder hurdle to clear.
