As a person who grew in the Github Age, Can anyone tell me about SourceForge and how it had fallen down to the state it was. And how github won that war.

@XxAlexXx I haven't grown up in the GitHub age but I guess the fall of Sourceforge was when they put a junkware into free/libre software like GIMP.https://www.pcworld.com/article/427799/sourceforge-stops-ad-bundling-without-permission.html

@XxAlexXx I don't know but I wouldn't like a forge to take my code and compile a binary version with adware included. If that's not something that make you lose trust on the forge, I don't know what would be.I don't like Github either, but what SourceForge did was very bad in my opinion.More information if you want to deep a bit more.https://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2015/q2/194https://blog.l0cal.com/2015/06/02/what-happened-to-sourceforge/

@jrballesteros05 People don't have a lot of trust in github yet its one of the most popular sites. And adware? That won't destroy a giant down. Not something at the size of sourceforge.

@XxAlexXx It's more than "an adware", they were introducing junkware in floss projects without their consent. Other projects like nmap were talking about "spyware", in my opinion that's not good. I said, that might not be the main reason to destroy them, because maybe Github has just done things better. But in my opinion that incident was a good reason for many people to change. Bad reputation can destroy a company.
