@wolf480pl It was for the SerenityOS project, where they seem to imply the have more contributors than when they were just on IRC. I don't know if donations also increased.

@brad ok but they won't get any benefit just from you joining their discord... if it was like likes on YT I'd understand, but discord?

@brad agreed. I mean, IRC isn’t accessable to all, however Discord isn’t the solution. Matrix sure, but not Discord. 🤦‍♂️

@swansinflight What's not accessible about IRC exactly..? I have recently been seeing a blind guy in one channel I'm in even.

@brad poor wording. I mean the technical barrier to entry. I guess the supplied web interfaces negate that for the most part these days. I still have to look up the slash commands, they don’t stick for me.

@swansinflight The commands stick with real-world usage. I have a text file for less-used stuff, like adding new servers to autoconnect on irssi, but the basics like /join, /part, and a lot of that stuff are pretty solidly in my memory. The alternative would be to have one million buttons/menus or less features. I don't really think that's a good trade-off. It is worth noting that your client can handle that, having buttons for some of the commands. On the flipside, Matrix actually has a lot of / commands. If you know a room's address you can /join it from whatever one you're currently in. I do sometimes worry that I'm sending typing notifications for what isn't a real message to that room, though.A lot of beginners seem to be fine with Hexchat. irssi is my favorite because of how powerful and customizable it is, and because I can leave it running in tmux and access it over ssh from other devices, but it was definitely a bit tricky to pick up at first.I believe most people could figure out IRC if they gave it an honest try, but many probably won't ever bother.
